A very interesting gig is making its way to vinyl.
Now without the moving images and all the bonus footage:

The live in Nijmegen version (along with Burn Out Rock n Roll) is brilliant. Loved when Charles would regularly serve up a random cover song that would make me delve into that artists repertoire.

Listened to a lot of Dave Van Ronk because of All Around the World.

Agreed. It really is a shame that they didn't [successfully] record together more during the reunion. Not for want of trying on Charles' part, from what we know.

At the solo show I saw a year ago in Vermont that was incredible, I peeked at the list of songs he had and saw it was on there and was thanking god he skipped it. I'd take just about anything over that.

Yeah I remember that scene being a bit weird. I was pretty sick of BF playing that song all the time during that era. Never really liked it except for the Live at Nijmegen performance which suddenly turned it into a Dropkick Murphys song.

It may be from my own experience in rehearsal spaces with my own bands years ago. There is just a palpable sense when I felt like I was pushing my band to do something they didn't want to do, even if they were being agreeable about it.

Yeah, I have the DVD of the concert from back in the day. It includes a Loud-Quiet-Loud style behind the scene documentary with the scene Troubles A Foot mentioned. I love the version, but I do remember Kim being quite uneasy with the whole set up (at one point she asks for reassurance that they will be doing typical Pixies rockers like Holiday Song and Nimrod's Son).

Yes I remember watching the rehearsal footage for this show on youtube. There's a weird sense, possibly in my own mind, of Frank pushing All Around the World on them as if they are the Catholics instead of the Pixies. I had a "uh oh" vibe from that.

also, no mention (yet?) of TOTY Live release for this upcoming RSD.
this was also going to be released by Demon Records before the announcement disappeared.
see: http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34598
i think they would have announced it by now if they were planning to release it in april.

we might have to wait a bit longer for that one...

this has been released on cd back in 2005: https://www.discogs.com/release/553263-Pixies-06-August-Newport-RI

bit strange to ignore that in the description of this upcoming RSD release:
quote:
First time physical audio only release for Pixies unique first ever ‘acoustic’ live performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 2005. This recording sees the reunited line-up of Frank Black, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering give alternate takes on 22 of the biggest Pixies favourites and is released on 2LP colour vinyl (1 x green, 1 x yellow lp) exclusively for Record Store Day 2026, twenty years after it’s original release on dvd.
