Posted - 02/01/2014 : 11:23:11 Arm, regarding your loving when the Pixies mess around with their songs on stage. (I know I'm a concert-going fanatic, but)...I saw the Pixies 17 times between Dec, 2004 and Oct,2005. And, at the end of "Monkey...", they'd goof around with the last line, which cracked me up. Can't remember the exact words but they'd sing, like, "This monkey knows it's leaven" or "This monkey's born in Yemen" or.... I thought that was so cool OR that they were so sick of singing it every note that they broke up the monotony. haha

Did same thing when Pixies did Letterman in 2004 with "Monkey....." hehe
I never noticed that about him but I've not watched much Letterman. I think he brought something new to the song, same with the short Joeyesque solo by the guitarist.
I love when Pixies mess around with their songs on stage. |

Oh, what a wonderful period. No digital cameras, serious people behind the mix table, inventive interviews... etc etc.... Trompe Le Monde, is similar to Alison and to larger extent to Wave of Mutilation if we had to put songs in boxes. But we don't have to, n'est-ce pas? At the end of the documentary you can hear the beginning of the Eno/Byrne song "Mea Culpa" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtRjdWWFW5o

Posted - 01/30/2014 : 10:57:12 I've always loved this album so much, but we all see quotes from critics/bloggers/whoever that say, "Pixies, with their near-perfect discog--save maybe 1991's 'Trompe Le Monde'..."
I've never quite understood all the negativity around it... I can put it on repeat for maybe 18 hours or so and be very happy. Can someone explain it to me? Anyone here "skip" this one... I can't understand it and am really just looking for an explanation. |

Before I clicked on the link I wondered if it would go to this performance. I love this version of Trompe, though I would've preferred Dave on drums. I really love Paul Schaffer's solo. |

Posted - 01/30/2014 : 04:03:01 Trompe (the song) and Sad Punk both blew me away Quintessential adult Pixies (vs. hispanic-manic-biblic-scream-rock, which was more a process)

Posted - 01/29/2014 : 23:16:36 Trompe Le Monde is probably my favourite Pixies album (side-to-side with Bossa). Epic ride.
The Sad Punk = greatest song ever. Trompe Le Monde (the song) is such an ufo in the Pixies catalog (and in rock'n roll in general). And all the rest is epic.
I wonder why they stopped playing Trompe Le Monde (the song). Maybe it's not working with only 2guitars/1bass/drums...?
