Posted - 01/13/2014 : 14:12:39 I don't post a lot, but thought but Charles writes some good tunes and they always seem aptly placed on every collection. it was said about greens n blues being wrote for a closer. That's par for the course. THINK. All the good openers and closers on every album. I could list em all but we know what they are. I may make a list later. |

Posted - 01/17/2014 : 16:50:43 Now, that's just for Sunday's show. On Tuesday, I'd like
Opener: TONY'S THEME
Closer: GIGANTIC (new, surf version) with surprise guests Kim Deal, Kim Shattuck and Jeremy Dubs ....and then...ending with "Give Peace A Chance"

Posted - 01/17/2014 : 10:54:04 Bone Machine has alaways been a favourite opener of mine, on Surfer Rosa and live. I've always liked the "This is a sooong for Carol" at the start, I don't know why, it always seemed so 'un-Pixies'.
EDIT It was also the opener on the 'Wave Of Mutilation Best Of' if I remember correctly. The tracklisting was roughly chronological other than this and one or two other tracks.

They opened the Doolittle 20th Anniversary shows with it. Sounded brilliant. |

Posted - 01/15/2014 : 04:00:17 Too bad they totally stopped playing "Trompe Le Monde" (the song) a long time ago. What a terrific song. And I agree, it would be an epic opener.
And ending with another lost one: Space I Believe In... singing the Perry Mason theme eeeehh weeeeeeeh eeeeeeeeeeeehhh.

Posted - 01/15/2014 : 02:23:31 i still love hearing bone machine as an opener of a show. just to make things more interesting - how about opener of the encore? i vote for rock music there. |

Posted - 01/15/2014 : 01:51:26 They started a 2005 show I went to with Alec Eiffel. Now that was an asskicking opener. |

Of all the best openers in BF's catalog, I arrive at a tie between the 1-2-3 punches of Doolittle and TOTY Debaser-Tame-Wave Pong-Thalassocracy-Plain

Best closer: agree with ruzom -- Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons. |

Posted - 01/14/2014 : 10:36:21 Well both I think that for all the albums in particular almost all of them. both have great openers and closers. Almost as if they where wrote with that in mind frank black albums as well the list of not as good openers and closers would be shorter |

Posted - 01/14/2014 : 02:07:47 Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons was used to close at least one show on the Trompe tour if I remember well, and I thought it was quite a terrific way to end the set. |

Posted - 01/13/2014 : 21:39:35 I think Bossanova has the best opening ever: Cecilia Ann/Rock Music.
Cecilia Ann builds up to rock music drum progression / screaming chorus.
Those songs are perfect opener for albums AND live performances. I think they used those songs as openers on some bossanova-era concerts (maybe both).

Posted - 01/13/2014 : 21:03:31 We talking about concert openers/closers or albums/EPs? Because Greens and Blues, Rock Music, and Wave of Mutilation Surf don't open or close any recorded release...
And I believe BF was referring to Greens and Blues being an intended closer for live shows. |

Posted - 01/13/2014 : 20:34:23 Best opening: Rock Music !!
Worst opening: slow songs (IMO !). I love Wave of Mutilation surf version, but doesn't quite work as an opening IMHO.
