Probably worth getting as the original CD sounded so horrible. |

Posted - 11/27/2013 : 11:03:12 I got my vinyl today and I gave it a listen. It sounds quite good when you crank up the volume. I would say there is more of a difference than mofi's release of Doolittle. There are definitely details that I never heard before on songs like Space, Letter to Memphis and Subbaculcha. And Bird Dream sounds stunning. I definitely recommend this one, more than any other mofi release. Kind of expensive, but it is worth it considering the CD release never did it justice. No liner notes though. |

Knowing Mofi, those can't be that far off. In the meantime, just buy the CD and put on your sub woofer slightly and you will never know the difference:)
Well its avail for pre-order on soundstage - you were right!

Nice! I will probably get this one as well. Strange it isn't on the mofi page. |

Posted - 09/23/2013 : 10:27:14 Trompe Le Monde will always sound like Trompe Le Monde unless it is remixed in a studio.
SACD version will have a better bitrate, that's all. Final mix remains unchanged (overall dynamics,...).
Trompe Le Monde & Bossanova are not the best sounding albums ever. Still, they are my favority Pixies albums. Trompe Le Monde is probably one of the greatest rock albums ever. I have a nice system (Focal monitors on my computer / another high end hi-fi system), but I prefer listening to Pixies records on headphones. I don't really care after all.

Posted - 09/23/2013 : 10:00:24 I bought all of the other pixies albums when they came out on SACD. I was convinced that there was a good improvement in overall sound quality/output at the time. I still have my 'standard' cd releases so may give them a compare and contrast spin. Will be buying TLM SACD shortly so will report back when I do so.
I do have a reasonably decent set up (cost me enough 8 years ago!). Spendor S6 speakers which are bi-wired to an Exposure 2010 amp. Exposure 2010 cd player as well. This set up gives a nice warm sound. This is all UK kit so not sure if it was ever available on the other side of the pond. |

Posted - 09/23/2013 : 09:40:44 I use energy cf-30s. However, I kind of wish I got the slightly better cf-70s as they were also half off at the time. I was a bit underwhelmed by the sound quality. |

It's a very dramatic difference on my system, but wouldn't be and isn't in the car, on the iPod, or on a basic or even intermediate home theater system. Unless you have a killer stereo with excellent speakers (most important part) with a wide soundstage and fast response, the difference will be minimal. Production values kind of ramp up exponentially on the noticibility scale dependant on the system.

In my experience, anything Mofi is typically a significant, instantly noticeable jump in fidelity. Sometimes it's more dramatic than others (depending on how well the original release was mastered to begin with).

Don't have an SACD player though. I pushed all my audiophile chips in on vinyl and vintage equipment. I'll wait, I'm relatively patient.
