It may be less MTV/'professional' looking, but I like the arty, bizarre new vid. We are after all being turned into bland, homogenous battery chickens.

They have, but when asked directly about it they don't respond. Annoying if you ask me.

Anyone got a good link for Indy Cindy or the complete Greens and Blues?

I think some songs have been performed by Frank solo at different dates over the past year or so. Haven't heard them myself as I keep waiting for an album to materialize.

Bohemoth, how many of the new 20+ songs have you heard and how/where?

Crackity Jones can stand on it's own I think, although I can never know now. We have to find someone who hasn't heard Doolittle and play it to them and gauge their reaction to it. Bag Boy has band who have exhausted their creative output trying to reinvent themselves all over it though. Sorry, it just does.

Crackity Jones is fun, but no, it wouldn't have stood on its own, nor would it nowadays if we can hypothetically imagine its release as a comeback single. Regardless, Bag Boy is as sound musically as any of those "fun" Pixies songs, and easily more structurally impressive. That said, there's certainly not much reinvention going on. In fact, it was likely selected to promote the tour given its classic qualities. As I've said before, it's a performance piece more than a "song", but I'm sure those will come later (shit, we've heard some via Frank's live shows). Bag Boy is a firm "we're still the Pixies"* handshake after nine long years of relative silence.

* "with twenty years of compositional experience under our belt, so check out how we navigate 10 parts into something that doesn't feel grossly disparate".

Nice pot, well said.

Thanks.

Agree with most of the sentiments above. Isolating Bag Boy as a one off song/single is bound to cause headaches. I initially liked it, then it started to wane (perhaps from overplaying). So while I don't rate it as one of Pixies finest moments, I still think it's good - it feels like it would be a great album track.

I have been avoiding the new songs on youtube, so what's next will (hopefully) be a nice surprise..

I have the key to #902

Nah, it doesnt, sorry. It sounds like a band feeling out making new music together for the first time in YEARS! I like it.

I know what you mean. I started off thinking it wasn't all that, then it grew on me and yeah now it's starting to grate a bit as well. I don't mind it, I just hope this isn't the best they have to offer.

Perhaps it's because the track exists without its peers; if it w
ere on an album there would be other songs to contrast it with.

Good point, imagine a song like Crackity Jones released on its own.

I like the song more now, though I would like to hear if there are specific reasons they chose this song for the return. I don't rate it as one of their best of course, but its and enjoyable, if simplistic, reintroduction to the band. Keep em coming!

I haven't heard the live solo performances of the new songs that are floating around Youtube, but people keep mentioning classic masher and greens and blues. Are these two that much better than the rest of what has been heard? Or just more catchy/rocking? Are the other songs people have heard that far behind in terms of quality?
Solo Bagboy as one of these early glimpses. That would have been a hard sell. Still love it as it is, though.

they're the most immediate, and pixies bias aside, sound like real, honest to goodness hits. none of the other songs are bad. indie cindy is pretty awesomely pixies. silver snail is slower but there's power in its delivery and the chords are cool. andro queen is the least impressive of the bunch, but it's still nice-- just slight.

If I had to compare the new songs we've heard to older Pixies songs it would be like this:

Classic Masher=Here Comes Your Man
Greens and Blues=Velouria
Indie Cindy=Subbacultcha
Silver Snail=Is She Weird
Andro Queen=Wave of Mutilation UK Surf
That's just, like, my opinion though... They're like those songs but not exactly like them.

Was "What goes boom" performed during the recent solo tour? Bohemoth, where did you hear this particular track?

Thanks,

I really like Greens and Blues, especially the faster version on youtube with just the guitar. And yeah, it's mainly because they're a bit more catchy.

i like the new video better. at the same time, i'd rather new music than a bunch of videos for one song. i hope they're not hedging all their bets on bagboy? it's a good performance piece but i'm ready for a 'song' song, like classic masher or greens and blues.

What going on in this one then, is Bag Boy going around fucking chickens now?

Impressive animation, prefer the silent movie version though. this song is staring to grate on me, like when Chumbawumba reinvented themselves in the late nineties. Never felt that way about a Pixies track before. This isn't a Pixies track without Kim though, the backing vocals suck balls, in fact the entire chorus where they repeat 'Bag Boy' over and over is just mediocre indie pap.
