Not sure if this is topic-worthy, but the Pixies feature on new game Major League Baseball 2K7's soundtrack:

Video Game Gets Rockin' with Wolfmother, Pixies

January 25, 2007

Watch the rockin' trailer for MLB2K7, featuring the Walkmen's
urgent single, "The Rat."

If you prefer America's
pastime set to music as
watered down as stadium
beer, 2K Sports' upcoming
Major League Baseball 2K7
isn't the videogame for you.
Along with new signature
style animation highlighting
every player's idiosyncrasies
and eerily realistic models,
the ballpark is packed with
tunes from serious sluggers
like Nirvana, the Stooges,
Pixies, Wolfmother, the
Specials, Tapes 'n Tapes, and
the Thermals, among others.

"We wanted to put together something that was really diverse and unique
for video game soundtracks, especially baseball-themed ones," Tim Rosa,
2KSport's Director of Brand and Lifestyle Marketing, told SPIN.com. "With
the music, we're trying to present something for everyone, something
spanning different eras. I was particularly thrilled to get the Stooges and,
as Nirvana hasn't licensed too many songs for video games, we were
stoked Courtney allowed one for the game."

Though you can't get a ticket to the action until MLB 2K7 officially comes
out in March (for PlayStation2, PlayStation3, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, Game
Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS), the trailer, set to the relentless rocking of
the Walkmen's track "The Rat," will give you a chance to see how this new
diamond shines.

As a fan of baseball, and as a fan of wasting precious time playing baseball video games, I think this is pretty cool. However, I think there could have been a better song selection than "Mr. Grieves." For some reason, I cannot grasp how Mr. Grieves could get me pumped for baseball...

red zone.

by IGN Music

February 22, 2007 - The in-game soundtrack to Major League Baseball 2K7 will be

gaming community with a soundtrack that makes sense for the game they are playing,
while also showcasing great artists above and below the fringe. We achieved that goal
with Major League Baseball 2K7, so I'm really proud of this one."

MLB 2K7 Brings The Indie Rock

2K Sports announced the soundtrack to their latest Major League Baseball game MLB
2K7 and it's a doozy. The playlist features some well known artists like Nirvana and
Sublime, but also features lesser known bands with not-dead frontmen like Tapes 'n'
Tapes, The Thermals and Les Savy Fav.

Here's the full rundown, one that will have some sports fans going "What? Who?"

* 311 "Down"
* Bishop Allen "Middle Management"
* Cities in Dust "Emergency"
* Death From Above 1979 "Little Girl"
* Dixie Witch "Set the Speed"
* Editors "Munich"
* Five Horse Johnson "I Can't Shake It"
* Greatdayforup "Man's Ruin"
* Les Savy Fav "Hold On To Your Genre"
* Nerf Herder "High Five Anxiety"
* Nirvana "Breed"
* Sublime "Summertime"
* Tapes 'n Tapes "Insistor"

Crazy, but any video game soundtrack that features both The Pixies and The
Stooges can't be faulted for its choices. Oh wait, I forgot about 311. Shame about
that. MICHAEL MCWHERTOR

MLB 2K7 keeps it indie on soundtrack

By Tim Surette - MP3.com

Wolfmother, Tapes 'n Tapes, The Pixies, Nirvana, The
Walkmen lead list of indie All-Stars for soundtrack; game goes
gold, will be in stores February 27.

2K Sports has no problem avoiding the mainstream when it comes to
putting together soundtracks for its games.

For NBA 2K7, the company
tapped producer extraordinaire
Dan the Automator to put
together a collection of
underground hip-hop. For MLB
2K6, the publisher teamed up
with indie stalwarts Matador
Records for its catalog of artists,
which includes indie darlings Yo
La Tengo, Pavement, and Pretty
Girls Make Graves.

This season, 2K Sports is
sticking with the indie-music theme with selections from vets and new
acts. The soundtrack, announced today, will include game soundtrack
staples Wolfmother, buzz band Tapes 'n Tapes (who will also head up the
2K Sports Hit-'n-Run tour), up-and-comers The M's, and established acts
such as Nirvana, The Pixies, and The Stooges. The full soundtrack is listed
below.

2K Sports also revealed that much like the glove of Athletics third baseman
Eric Chavez, MLB 2K7 is golden. The game will be available on February
27 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation
Portable. Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance versions will be released
later this spring. For more information, read GameSpot's previous
coverage

Live! Today! Nirvana Sells
Out (to Video Game)!

Fred Mills
February 23, 2007

Here we are now, entertain us: That crunching, creaking sound and fetid
odor is surely Kurt Cobain twisting in his grave (figuratively speaking): a
recording of Nirvana’s “Breed” has been product-placed on both the
soundtrack of 2K Sports’ “Major League Baseball 2K7” video game and
commercials for the game. Other artists appearing on the soundtrack
include Wolfmother, the Stooges, Pixies, Specials, 311, Tapes ‘n’ Tapes, the
Walkmen and Sublime, whose “Summertime” makes its video game
soundtrack debut (see full list below). While most of those have already
seen their music used in ads, this reportedly the first time a Nirvana track
has been licensed. WWKD?

“Major League Baseball 2K7” is slated to hit stores next week, on February
27, although at this point no accompanying CD soundtrack has been
scheduled.

However, you can go to the 2K Sports website and listen to the tracks via
digital stream. Clicking on the link will open a special music player at the
site.

“Major League Baseball 2K7” Musical Roster:

311: "Down"
Bishop Allen: "Middle Management"
Cities in Dust: "Emergency"
Death From Above 1979: "Little Girl"
Dixie Witch: "Set the Speed"
Editors: "Munich"
Five Horse Johnson: "I Can't Shake It"
Greatdayforup: "Man's Ruin"

For those of us with *ahem* fantastic taste in music, the MLB 2K7
soundtrack was obscenely impressive, even if you have little interest in
baseball. Death From Above 1979, Editors, Les Savy Fav, Nerf Herder,
Nirvana, Sublime, The Pixies, The Stooges, The Specials, The Thermals,

"We're also starting to think about all the less known songs that we want to put
up there. It's all digital now, so space is no longer at a premium. We no longer
have to agonize over the perfect 30 songs on the disc and we're looking forward
to having some fun with it. I recently had a request for the band The Pixies from
a journalist and it would be great to know what everybody out there wants, so if
you have any special requests, let us know in the comments to this blog. "

I think that by supporting a really bad, boring sport in this way, Frank is endorsing something lame and by extension suggesting that he, himself, is lame.

Another way to describe Virtua Fighter 5 is that it's like the Pixies. The
average Joe gamer probably has gone for the Tekkens, DoAs, and Soul
Caliburs
well before reaching for AM2's fighter. There will undoubtedly be
a strong sense of "why didn't I discover this game sooner?" that will
accompany the first few hours of play. Kind of like most rock fans were
some three years ago when the Pixies announced their reunion tour.
Never fear, PS3 owners; this monkey's gone to heaven, and brought
back manna in the shape of Sixaxis controllers.

I'm afraid even the awesomeness of "The Rat" couldn't make a baseball video game cool.

maybe I'll kick it
