The Record Shop

The Record Shop - 30 Years Of Rough Trade Shops - Album Review

The Record Shop,
30 Years Of Rough Trade Shops,
Album Review

Three decades have passed since the beginning
of rough trade shops and not a better way to
celebrate than release a double CD. 30 years of
rough trade shops consists of 30 songs as
chosen by the customers, including
recommended contributions from the likes of
Bjork, Jarvis Cocker & Bobby Gillespie.

Although there are very few big artists featured
(Adam And The Ants, Pixies, Bjork) the majority
of this compilation is eaten up by obscure
artists. On just browsing the tracklist you might
be left scratching your head uttering ‘Who?’ but
each and every track has a special cult quality,
whether it be alternative, punk, folk, electronic or
just sheer rock n’ roll.

With the collection of songs hailing from the
period between 1976-2005 there are some
utterly compelling, unique and stunning
masterpieces on show. Anybody who decides to
give this the time of day will be no doubt hunting
down several of the featured acts back
catalogue, That I am absolute certain of.

You will be hard pushed to find a better compilation this year. An essential purchase.
