10. The Pixies

In a January 1994 interview with Rolling Stone, Kurt Cobain admitted that Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was his attempt to write a Pixies song. "I was trying to write the ultimate pop song," Cobain said. "I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies. I have to admit it." Praised for being ahead of their time, the Pixies legacy has grown significantly over the years. Their 1988 album Surfer Rosa landed at number six on Spin Magazine's list of the greatest 100 albums of 1985-2005 and the group is credited with creating the "soft verse, hard chorus" style Nirvana would eventually make popular. After a successful reunion tour, which saw the band co-headline such big events as Lollapalooza 2005 and the Coachella music festival, the Pixies are reportedly working on a new album, their first since 1991's Trompe le Monde.

Ah yes, love it when Pixies fans bitch and moan about Nirvana. My day is complete. Now I sleep.

The previous part (Part V: Numbers 10-6) saw the likes of The Pixies, R.E.M., The Grateful Dead, Parliament/Funkadelic and the Velvet Underground.

"I like those women weight lifters. They're so sweet and strong. And they're not getting any ribbons for being pretty."

If I was trying to write the ultimate pop song I'd rip off Ottawan's 'Hands Up' or 'D.I.S.C.O'.
Again, Pixies entry justified by a quote from the late Kurt Cobain. Could have been worse, could have been Bono. I must admit, for a band who released only a handful of records, the Pixies were pretty good.

I wonder where the Monkees will poll
