http://www.statesman.com/life/content/auto/epaper/editions/monday/life_entertainment_34e35394275bc0770063.html
"Josh Frank and the alt-rock band have teamed up to offer fans a sneak peek at the biography with a pre-release reading.
"Joined on stage by local actors, the group will act out parts of the oral history, as well as read excerpts from the book, which took a little more than three years to write. During that time, Frank traveled with the band 24/7, gathering stories from peers and fans all around the world."

Pixies Oral History Released Today Kati Llewellyn reports: Pixies, still riding on their reunion high, are living up to the title of their recently released DVD, Pixies Sell Out. Yesiree, there's another book hitting stores. To be completely honest, we're a little bit jealous over here. When was the last time we saw nearly three hundred pages of published work devoted to Pitchfork Media? Oh, that's right-- never. Crud.
The latest Pixies book, Fool the World: The Oral History of a Band Called Pixies, landed in the UK today via Virgin Books. Fool the World was written by Josh Frank and Caryn Ganz in an attempt to tell the band's story in the words of, well, the band. Talk about an accuracy attack! Also responsible for its material are Pixies' tour managers, producers, and engineers, who, with other behind-the-scenes folk, provided Frank and Ganz anecdotes of the band's elevation to the position of indie superheroes. There's even celebrity input from Thom Yorke, Beck, Bono, Courtney Love, and, as Lollapalooza attendees may have guessed, the incredibly long-winded, not-so-secret admirer of Pixies, Perry Farrell. The book description on Amazon.co.uk calls Fool the World "a complete journey through the life, death, and rebirth of one of the most influential bands of all time." Hey! Paralleling Pixies to Jesus was our senior thesis idea, jerks!
In addition to this impressive list of interviewees, the book also features new cartoons by Steve Appleby (the Trompe Le Monde cover artist) and prints by longtime band photographer Simon Larbalestier.
Oh, and to the Pixies' home country fans-- don't get your panties in a bunch. Fool the World comes to the States on March 21, 2006 through publisher St. Martin's Griffin. Phew!
In even more Pixies news, MTV.com reported that Black's latest solo album is nearly finished and may include 25+ songs when the final version drops in early 2006. You might see these guys as busybodies, but just remember, there was that whole 12-year-split thing. It seems to us that Pixies are just making up for lost time, and trust us, we ain't complainin'.

Posted - 10/04/2005 : 09:49:26 I believe it will be a nice book, it's a shame people want to frame Josh as bad writer. Honestely, I haven't read anything about him, but he stole my heart when he announced the Frank-musical in a time when Frank Black wasn't that popular (not in a pixies-reunion or honeycomb-buzz kind of way).

Posted - 10/03/2005 : 22:13:55 FYI- before anyone gets all worked up or pissed off. The press completely (once again) screwed up the information on this little reading. I dont know where they got this from, but it was not from the source. Josh Frank did a little reading tonight from the book thats comin out this week ALONE! And for some crazy reason the writer of that article put all that stuff in there. I dont know what she was on when she wrote it? I saw the press release about the reading that he sent out and it did not in any way state that A) the band was involved B) the band would be there or C) that Josh was with the band 24/7. He didnt EVER say that to ANYONE. For some reason journalists insist on glamorizing and inflating everything that has to do with the pixies and with josh's projects.
Im so sick of the press FREAKIN pulling stuff out of there bottoms and makin Josh look bad. Its really frustrating. I've sent a letter to the editor explaining just that.
I hope that clears things up as fast as possible for the life long fans as I am one of both The Pixies and Josh's work.
