At this weekend's Lollapalooza fest in Chicago, he'll share a bill with dozens of acts, including Weezer and The Pixies.
"I don't know the Pixies, of course. Blimey, bloody hell. We played with the Pixies years ago in Switzerland — that must've been in the early '90s — yeah, it was '91 or something. So it's like, you know, "Christ! How many years later (and) we're still going?" It's great. It's about 15 years later, and we're all playing together again. So it's kinda wild, you know?"

Never liked Idol solo but Gen X rocks.
Man Utd tied for 1st. Rooney promises less red cards and Van N with 3 goals.
Did you exchange? Can you Mr. Grieves?

And regarding Billy Idol, I think his "rock star cartoon charachter persona" is just his schtick-he works it for what it's worth and he makes no bones about it. Other than "Eyes w/o a Face" however I don't think much of his music. He's a cool guy though, He was on Jonsey's Juke Box (Steve Jones' radio show out here in Los Angeleez) the other day and he's a funny dude. He was talking about Steve Jones having a seizure on the console while they were recording an album and as they EMT's were wheeling him out, strapped down on a gurney, he looks at Billy Idol and says, "See ya at the club mate!" They were supposed to play a gig later the same night apparently. |

Not to offend his fans, but to answer your question...
I'd seen the Ramones the previous night, I was bopping down the street hearing in my head "Everytime I Eat Vegetables It Makes Me Think Of You," feeling good, feeling real when I saw him and everything about him seemed about 'tude. In contrast to the Ramones he felt very studied, like a poseur.

In Contrast to the Ramones, most all of us are poseurs!
Concerning Billy "The Kid" Idol, I like what Carl said: "I'm sure hes' a little bit tongue-in-cheek about the whole rock and roll attitude, although maybe not enough!!"
I'm sure Billy has a huge ego and probably takes himself a little too serious some/most/all of the time. But, damn, that would described most of us, if we're honest with ourselves. Granted, we might not perform on a stage as big as "The Kid" does, but each of us plays the lead role in our own life-long movie and most of the time we believe our own hype...or at least that's what I do.

it was '87 when the cult opened for billy. in late '86 the cult were on tour solo with guns'n'roses as the openers. then solo again when electric was released after the billy idol show. 3 times in 8 months, awesome.

The Cult show I'm referring to was at the Ritz after the Felt Forum show had to be cancelled when the headliner, Billy Idol, had to cancel. If you saw them at the Felt Forum it must have been a different show.
But, if we were at the same show, I wouldn't be suprised if that wasn't the only time our paths have crossed.
How did you wear your hair then?
