PIXIES¹ SANTIAGO SCORES SHOWTIME SERIES ³WEEDS² In addition to being the guitarist for one of the most influential and beloved bands of all-time, PIXIES¹ guitarist Joey Santiago is forging a career in television. Over the past few months in-between Pixies¹ reunion dates, Santiago has been holed up in the studio scoring the original music for ³Weeds,² the new Showtime original comedy series that debuts August 10. ³Weeds² stars Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins and Kevin Nealon, and looks at ³typical² family life in the suburban neighborhood of Agrestic, CA where recently-widowed Nancy Botwin (Parker) makes ends meet by becoming the neighborhood pot dealer.
³This is a lot of fun and something I can continue to do when I¹ll embarrass my kids by being on stage,² joked Santiago. ³Scoring a TV series is a lot different than playing in a band, the pace and deadlines are completely different, but once you get into the groove, it¹s really great.²
Hailed as ³the most talked-about comedy in ages² by Newsweek, ³Weeds² will air on Showtime Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00PM. Prior to his work on ³Weeds,² Santiago composed original music for the Fox-TV series ³Undeclared,² and co-scored the feature film ³Crime and Punishment in Suburbia.² He recently wrote a theme for the Cartoon Network's show "Sunday Pants" which will premiere on September 25 at 9:30PM.
As a member of Pixies, Santiago and his band mates recently received their second Gold record for their 1988 album, ³Surfer Rosa.² The band will headline this year¹s Lollapalooza festival to be held this Saturday, July 23 in Chicago, and perform an atypical acoustic set at the Newport Folk Festival on August 6.

by Paul Cashmere
18 July 2005
Joey Santiago from the Pixies might now one day win an Emmy Award before he wins a Grammy Award. The Pixies guitarist is scoring the original music for 'Weeds', a new comedy from Showtime.
Weeds is about a typical suburban family from Agrestic, California. The show stars Mary-Louise Parker as recently widowed Nancy Botwin, Elizabeth Perkins and Kevin Nealon.
"This is a lot of fun and something I can continue to do when I'll embarrass my kids by being on stage," joked Santiago. "Scoring a TV series is a lot different than playing in a band, the pace and deadlines are completely different, but once you get into the groove, it's really great."
Santiago's previous television credits include original music for the FOX series 'Undeclared,' and the feature film 'Crime and Punishment in Suburbia.' He also recently wrote a theme for the Cartoon Network's show 'Sunday Pants'.
