Posted - 01/28/2013 : 04:52:47 i can imagine how spoilt the clients are today, back then, before i lost track, it was enough to take their shoddy pages made in ms frontpage and clear them of bloat and incompatibilities and they were happy. that last remark is classic- "i'll know what i want when i see it"
obligatory xkcd
floop, i'll seriously buy a copy of that book, whatever's in it. (for purposes of the preceding statement the term whatever does not include toilet paper in any form) |

Posted - 01/26/2013 : 03:27:17 Hey thanks, tisaswath :) Check this out: http://www.themarysue.com/graphic-designers-revenge/2/
Yes i've learned content is king (should I say "and queen" what with the conference diversity issue we have going on at the mo). I'm a plain old simple HTML and CSS guy who likes to keep it simple.
I need to test my site in IE and amend and also fix the menu and padding (etc) for mobiles but i'm getting there. I've had a few clients who wanted flashy stuff and I told them what's the point when it's just noise (IMO) but hey ho. I once built a site with tables and I think it's still online somewhere. I remember the days before I used PHP and CMS, hand building galleries and frequently updating the headers and footers for every page. CMS is making things a lot easier and quicker but I love learning how a plug-in works before I use one. It's so easy to just let the plug-in do everything for me, I feel lazy. The industry is changing so rapidly my sites from a year ago need to be freshened up and i'm quite embarrassed by them now but it's all a learning process.
I could talk to you all day about this. If you don't find me here you can find me at css-tricks! |

Posted - 01/26/2013 : 01:52:24 thanks for the scan, fbc, and i have to say i agree with your approach to web design, beauty in simplicity and minimalism. once i made a website for a club i was a member of, with tables, this was back in the days of 14400 modems so i optimised for bandwidth, still the site did all it had to, galleries, message board, members only corner etc. then after a few years during which i managed the content, some member complained that it looked kind of dead, i.e. no in your face flickering stuff and such, so i let them take over and overhaul it and it's been dead after that, because apparently taking care of the content was much lower on the priority list than pimping. |

Posted - 01/22/2013 : 10:59:34 I wrote that because I thought I'd read in that blog that the break-up went amicably but upon re-reading it it turns out that wasn't mentioned at all. So yeah, my mistake. |

Posted - 01/21/2013 : 06:40:01 Uh huh. I still enjoy reading it some 8 years later and hopefully there's something in there you've not read before. I know I don't need to explain myself but I referenced that particular quote about Kim and Charles only because it mentions Kim's liking of Frank. As a fan of them both, it was nice to read how Kim felt about his songwriting. It's not there to spark some random postings about their fractured relationship or to stoke any flames.
Anyway, give yourself 10 minutes in a peaceful place and enjoy :) |

[December 2004] This was and still is a great read. I keep it in the bathroom for whenever i'm doing a floop. Quite a few pages about the band and "quotes" from crew etc..
quote: Thompson went to lengths to keep the old days at bay. "Once Kim asked to see Frank Black," Wallace recalls, "and Charles went through the guest-list and scribbled her name off. The girl just wanted to see him play because she think's he's the greatest songwriter alive."
I've never read that article, looks interesting. Do us a favor, scan the article and put into a .pdf. If you can't do .pdf, send me the raw scans and I'll do it and host the file.
BTW, in the US "Uncut" is a slang term for uncircumcised.

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 22:40:48 Thanks so much Dayanara! This article was good. I really enjoyed the candid nature feel of this article.
Jediroller, I agree that the quotes at the beginning rocked. But I really dug the ones at the end especially!!!
Glad to hear Frank is having fun. Glad to hear that they are keeping the things that they want to keep private private. Glad to hear it sounds like they are healthy. It's true that they don't have to hang out 100% of the time. I am just happy that they're happy.
I am also happy that they're not going to taint the album with making money and they're going to do it at their own pace!! |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 10:40:16 Thanks! I bought it last month, but I left it at the other end of the planet. Those Frank quotes at the beginning are the best ever. You tell 'em Chuck!
Not too fond of the gossipy stuff that comes after that, though.
