apparently they could be headlining the Carling Festival (ie Reading and Leeds) this year, and they're rumoured to be their last British dates.

The proper announcement comes next month - so not sure how true this is (but it's the best festival to play, when it's not raining!)

Their last ever hey, they could be taking a leaf out of Robert Smiths book, whose last album was Head on the Door!

This is a high class bureau de change, not some Punch & Judy show on the seafront at Margate!

I completly agree with you, I think Frank should never say never again. I think that could be the best for all.

I've not really gotten into them, though to be fair I haven't invested much time listening. I should probably pick up one of their discs...

"Could be the last ever" is journalistic creativity and nothing more. Any show on their tour could've been their last ever, really. Maybe they're all kidnapped by wealthy Pixies fans after leaving the show. Maybe one of them decides to join the circus. Maybe.

That said, I think the ideal world would have FB & Catholics, Pixies, Breeders all still going strong. FB is prolific enough that he could sustain two bands with new material.

oh my oh me! I think I'm going to pass out!

I'm happy to see the music whatever wrapping it comes in
I'm happy for the chance to see him live whatever the band
I'm happy to get new tunes from any part of that creativity
I'm happy with the pixies, I was happy with the solo/catholics
I'm happy.

(I would be happy with the pants-less thing too I might add)

I agree with Cult of Frank.

As long as Charles enjoys writing, recording and performing, it'll be just as enjoyable to watch him and the band.

i totally understand where your coming from, my one post was abit of a rant and unnecessarily long wasn't it.

I don't know how they could become another band. maybe swap instruments. That would be fun.

And people can call it pointless, but i think it's fun too, to speculate and think of the future. We'll have the answers in time but trying to second guess them is part of the excitement of the pixies and Frank. What will happen next? the songs we're gonna get to hear. My mind boggles. I can't wait.

It seems just something a promoter would say to boost attendance and ticket price. I'm not saying it's a lie which is why the word chance was also thrown in.

The Man is a songwriting and creative GENIUS!!!

He's changed bands, He interchanges band members, he changes the way he makes records (multi-track studio vs. live to 2-track; Mobile studio vs. Los Angeles, New York, Nashville)

But, some things never change.
He continues, year after year, releasing great album after great album.
He continues, year after year (check out his gigography), to tour, as he sings in California Bound, he continues to come and "save our mind and our town".

I know that whichever way his creativity leads him, his genius will follow (And so will we. I just hope he doesn't become an actor. Staying with the Pixies for awhile, I'm alright with. But, taking a hiatus from his music to become an actor, now that would be difficult to deal with.)

Experience shows that he can certainly handle more than one project at a time, after all he recorded Honeycomb and Nashville2 this year while on tour with the Pixies.

I've got complete confidence in The Man. He won't let us down. He can do it all, and do it all very well.

Long Live the Pixies!
Long Live the Catholics!
Long Live Frank Black!
Long Live Rock and Roll!

Maybe this self-quote and this post is an unnecesary spam, but I'd just like to make sure we understand each other: I was thinking they could form a new band together, same guys just different name. This way they could make any kind of music they want without anybody comparing them with the band they used to be. I mean, people would still do that but at least they could say "fuck you we're not the Pixies". My point is, I don't want them to try to sound like the Pixies, because maybe (I don't mean certainly!) that wouldn't come out right. But I would like to see them create something together. I don't care how it sounds like, as long as it's good music, which it would surely be.
Anyway, this is all quite pointless as I am not trying to predict the future or make a point, just some random thoughts...

You know what, I was reading this thread and thinking the same thing. I think that would be cool, if thats cool for the band and like FBC says doesn't put too much pressure on them!

Back to topic, wow that's such cool news!! Thank you Jo!! OK you Brits I want a full report right after each show complete with lots of photos.

I'm not sure who would write any new material, there's a few in the band who are both amazing and accomplished songwriters in their own right. I don't know the truth behind the split, only rumours. But I do know they're all older and wiser from the years spent apart, they can compromise and share and be a litlle more tolerant to each other, unlike what's portrayed of the early 90's (*cough* franks band)

They have this aura around them, that people like me weight on they're shoulders. Today, they don't deserve the pressure and "hero worship" that comes with being a 'cult' band, where us fans expect a certain style of sound. Frank's come from Nashville, only he knows what any potential Pixie record may sound like, but let them play Polka music if they want to. I know i'll probably buy it. Actually, i'd be dying to get my hands on it.,

Regard them as four musicians in their own right, and appreciate that all four of them are making music together. But that's only if there ever is to be a new record. The best news is it's looking more positive there could be future collaborations with each other for us to hope for and imagine, and that can only be a good thing.

Music to our ears.

Don't know what's going to happen with the Pixies.
I know the reunion thing can't go on forever, especially not playing the same songs they have been doing.
They're not the Rolling Stones, thank God.
But you must see a Frank Black show.
It's a real shame you may never get to see the Catholics.
ElevatorLady Posted - 02/02/2005 : 14:42:40
Actually the more I think about it... I did see the Pixies once and I have yet to see a Frank Black solo performance...
One more comment on this subject, something I've been thinking about a while ago. As much as I would welcome new Pixies material, I don't really think it would work. Seeing how Frank Black's musical style has evolved since, a potential new Pixies album would be either a) not sounding like the Pixies or b) fake. By fake I mean not honest but forecefully moulded into a certain sound and style. And of course there is nothing wrong with "not sounding like the Pixies", but if they're gonna do that then there is no point in keeping the band together. I think that if they still want to work together in the future they should just break up the Pixies and form a new band, as a side project, and play and create any kind of music they feel like.
Nothing but an excerpt of random thoughts...
frank black conspiracy Posted - 02/02/2005 : 13:00:10
Yeah, it was a shock to me too, hence my first post.
but then I thought about.

There are so many songs I haven't heard Frank play from his post-pixie catalogue which i'd love to hear live, more so than I want to hear Here Comes Your Man or gigantic again.

But hopefully we have the summer to hear these songs one last time for the sake of nostalgia.

The Pixies will always be one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time.

i've only had the pleasure of seeing them just the once, but that was more than I could ever have dreamt.
But i've had my fill of the monkey and holiday songs now. Damn! thats all i have on the official dvd.
I still wonder who they were playing for, Bossanova and Trompe were sorely missed. Oh yeah...the ch-ching!

in the summer i'll be again standing there in awe at my favourite band but inside i'll be saying a fond farewell.

i miss frank black too much to wanna hold on to the past.
