Pixies Wrap Reunion Tour, Prep DVDs
The Pixies wrapped their triumphant reunion tour Saturday night (Dec. 18) with two shows at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. The gigs capped a nearly eight-month trek, the quartet's first since its original 1992 dissolution, which played to sold-out audiences across the world.
While it's unclear if the Pixies plan to attempt a new studio album, there is new product on the way. As previously reported, a film crew followed the tour throughout the year for a documentary DVD. In addition, a separate DVD is in the works culling on-stage footage.
"I have collected film from about six or seven full concerts which we plan to edit for a compilation concert DVD," Pixies manager Ken Goes tells Billboard.com. "There is a possibility that these two DVDs will be combined into one double-disc set, but that is not yet confirmed." No release date has been finalized.
Goes says there are no plans for a corresponding live album since authorized soundboard recordings of many of the 2004 shows were sold via outlets such as DiscLive.
Group members will also be devoting time to other projects. Frontman Frank Black plans to release two separate albums of material recorded this year in Nashville with session musicians such as Steve Cropper and the Band's Levon Helm. Negotiations for the release of the first set, "Honeycomb," are in progress with spinART, which has issued Black's past several projects.
In addition, bassist Kim Deal plans to record a new album with the Breeders, which will be the group's first release since 2002's "Title TK" (Elektra).

Posted - 12/24/2004 : 09:20:17 Can't wait for the DVDs, and can't wait for Honeycomb.
This is also the first I've heard of a new Breeders album..... Title TK certainly wasn't my favorite album, but I'm still looking forward to something new from the Breeders. |

Posted - 12/23/2004 : 04:01:14 Just found out about the DVD now, can't bloody wait for it. Are you sure it will be two seperate ones? I would have thought it would just be one with a documentary and live footage. We'll see I guess but it sure is great news.
Help me! He keeps making me post!

In fairness, they also played Brazil, Iceland, Spain, Holland, France, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Norway.
Fair enough, I did not realise/forgot most of the above shows happened. But I was speaking more from my own Southern Hemispheric perspective, where Australia & NZ have both missed out [again!]. I just hope that 2005 will be our year..............

I do not consider: Canada, USA, a handful of gigs in the UK, one in Japan & the USA to be "the world".
Hopefully the rest of the globe will eventually get the opportunity to see their much loved Pixies in the flesh, in their own backyard... Please!

Posted - 12/21/2004 : 00:03:40 Wohoo, 2 dvd's!
Honeycomb on spinART? wow that's good news and a bit bad news it's not of the big companys that they (well actually we only know about Jon Tiven) said they were negotiating with
but Spinart is fine, we all love the spinart girl wonder if this means that it will also be on cooking vinyl here in Europe
