Please note that I spelled "Christmass" correctly this time, unlike in the previous round.
And please don't break my heart again by voting one of my favorite songs off the island so quickly. I love "The Water." I'm really surprised it's gone. I predict that you "Water" voters will wonder someday why you did it. And the lyrics, mikealp75? They're as good as anything he's done in the last 10 years. Think of that song as the prequel to "Bullet." Both are about FB's father, and sung from his point of view, and it's been pointed out that they sound similar. My favorite version is the one he did live on woxy.com - http://woxy.lala.com/music/loungeacts/index.php?id=142. I predict that song's got a great future when it's released on an album as a studio version.
But enough of my whining about the last round. On with Round 3 ... Here's what's left:

Frank called it a "work in progess" every time he performed it last year, I think, and yet he didn't change anything in the song. The only thing it seemed he wanted to change was the title, though it ended up staying the same.
Anyhow, there's something to be said for sparse lyrics. Check out the entire Pixies catalog for an example of that.

It's not that I think the lyrics to The Water are bad; I'd just like some more of them! When I first heard it I thought it was a work in progress because I heard the potential of a Great Epic song. To me, it isn't quite as suggestive or simple as its length requires. (Or I just don't get it!) I did get the Black Daddy connection, I just didn't think it's as memorable as Bullet. I guess time will tell.
