Ruin to win. I just listened to it again recently, and remembered how many good parts it has. I thought the whole second part was a different song, if I remember correctly. So that makes it as good as like, at least 2 or 3 songs. Right?

Elijah would win, but In The Time ruined it! From the first time I heard it, I knew "In The Time of My Ruin" was the best song on the album. The best Pixies song the Pixies never played.

here's my theory:
there's 5 categories of Frank Black songs:
1- The Untouchable Masterpieces (Los Angeles, Speedy Marie, The Swimmer, Valentine and Garuda, Announcement, Freedom Rock...)
2- The Perfect Songs (You Ain't Me, Big Red, Parry The Wind, Cold Heart Of Stone, 85 Weeks...)
3- The Hits (All My Ghosts, Stupid Me, Men In Black, Jane The Queen Of Love, The Jacques Tati...)
4- The Really Good Songs (Skeleton Man, Punk Rock City, The Vanishing Spies, His Kingly Cave, I'll Be Blue...)
5- The Good Songs (Adda Lee, Space Is Gonna Do Me Good, Robert Onion, I've Switched You...)
IMO Elijah belongs to the 4th category, and In The Time Of My Ruin belongs to the 3rd

Listening to it I've just realized why I loved Elijah: it sounds like a Catholics tune. Could've been easily on Devil's Workshop.

In The Time Of My Ruin is a pretty good song, almost excellent. But everytime I hear it I can't help comparing it with earlier tracks like Parry The Wind, which has a similar construction in 2 parts, but oh so cleverly played and with such an awesome production. ITTOMR is top-notch songwriting; the slow end is classic FB, but it falls flat due to the production. Listen to Parry, Olé Mulholland, Fazer Eyes, End of Miles; that's how the song should have ended, in a blast. Now the 4 LA tracks are my faves of the whole album, but this song is the one I like least of the 4.
Elijah on the other hand is both perfectly written and perfectly played. Everyone's in the right place even with the fucked-up time changes. AND there's a small bit of screaming.
