On channel 4 on the advert for The 50 greatest artists of all time,if you look closely at the collage of band names and symbols, the planet off Bossanova shows up briefly and then sorta disappears.Didn't hear any pixies tunes though

YOU'RE RIGHT! YOU'RE FUCKING RIGHT!

they're advertising the next episode, greatest artists of the 1980's, and the pixies globe appears, definately, i was watching carefully when it came on and both me and gf saw it!

i'm still not sure if i'll watch the show or not. in fact i know i won't. i'm away for a long weekend in the country.

no way! i missed that bit. i was flicking through the channels, didnt pay too much attention as i was waiting for the Pixies. caught Nirvana and Dre but skipped a few others. and you're right, two hours was way too long. Yet again Channel 4 has used and abused the Pixies name to draw in the viewers. w****rs!

Sorry guys and gals but they were mentioned last night : (

Jamie Theakston said "could it be the Pixies with there songs of incest etc etc etc...........but they wont be up for the hall of fame this year bla bla bla"

We (Pixies) were grouped with The Manics (have you heard their DREADFUL and flimsy new single makes you really cringe) and Blur. The latter went forward to the 10 for the vote for THE HALL OF FAME.

Oh well maybe next year : )

I saw it last night and actually found it quite annoying. I really dislike the way these programmes span out for over 2 hours. Wasn't expecting Dr. Dre or Missy but the rest was pretty predictable!

Still lets hope the pixies get in next week. Its a boring programme, but it would be nice to see them get a mention!
the tolerant Posted - 10/11/2004 : 10:20:21
anyone see this last night? we got to choose from 10 acts of the 90's:

blur
dr. dre
missy elliot
nirvana
oasis
prodigy
radiohead
chili peppers
robbie
spice girls

there are already 5 in "the hall of fame' - beatles, madonna, bob marley, elvis, U2.

i was half expecting the pixies to appear but seen the ad for next week, the 80s, and the Bossanova planet featured so guess they got their facts right.
the pixies rode the cusp, so i reckon you could say they were the best inboth 80s and 90s. so no more votes please viewers. we have our hall of famer.

http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/H/halloffame/decade90s.html

oh, and my fave 5 are: nirvana, radiohead, dre, prodigy...
...ok, just four from me.

the pixies are the most underrated band ever by the mainstream, but we, the fans, tend to overrate them. ah, well, it's not our fault that they are awesome.
the tolerant Posted - 10/09/2004 : 05:17:35
on channel4 this morning they mentioned the Hall of Fame. We get to vote for our favourite bands of the 90s then the top 5 get put into the"Hall of Fame'.
oooh!

yes, that is correct. in fact, a completely uninteresting story... my dad is partly to blame/thank (whichever way you look at it) for his choice of 'writing-partner' - robbie's uncle (or some relative i can't be arsed trying to remember) used to listen to my dad's radio show on signal one (a stoke station) and my dad played lemontrees, he liked lemontrees... so when the record label gave him a list of writers and saw this guy, he chose him. in fact just been looking on the net and can't find any proof of any of that, so don't believe me.

i don't mind robbie williams, i don't think he does much harm to music, let's face it, the stuff he does is better than an awful lot of pop music.

she's the one is a world party song too btw, his version is pratically identicle. so now you know.

do you recall this DJ years back on signal, lee fynan or something like that, without a shadow of a doubt the best DJ I have ever heard.

Just saw the advert again, its now saying its the 'best bands of the 90's'...oh dear. Anyway, its on Channel 4, this Sunday at 9pm if anyones still interested. Although to be honest i doubt theres going to be anything that interesting.
the tolerant Posted - 10/07/2004 : 04:47:25
ok, i'll give him credit for writing the odd sentence. i stand corrected.

he puts the 'e' in the arsenal....co writing at his best.

on a par with Lennon and McCartney now i think about it.

you're kidding right? he lives in your country. if you're not jokin, he's from a boy band (say no more) back here, went solo, the girls and middle age women love him, he's all pop all cheese. total show man, doesnt write his own music and can release any old shit and it'll get to number one in our lame charts. he's been around a while, thinks english press intrude on his weird (is he gay? is he straight? who cares!) life and claims to be depressed and haunted by demons. he's our king of plop....played to crowds of over 200,000 idiots. Popular Music is Dead.
Now you know why it sucks the Pixies are apart of this farce.
prozacrat Posted - 10/06/2004 : 13:21:02
Who's Robbie Williams?
the tolerant Posted - 10/06/2004 : 11:00:22
this is no list of importance with the likes of Robbie Williams, Madonna the Spice Girls and Take That in there. i'm pretty gutted the Pixies have been grouped with these half-wits. The majority of the UK are pop, Radio 1 top 40 shit. Who the fuck decided to put the P's in there. The UK Top 50 artists/Hall of Fame whatever it is doesn't deserve the Pixies.

this is England, my guess, Top 50 artist #1 = Robbie Williams.
I might be wrong, the Spice Girls are up for nomination.
Domestiques Posted - 10/05/2004 : 22:24:59
the list isnt out yet, as soon as the 50 is announced I am sure someone will post it.

Anyone got the list to post? What number were the Pixies?

Domestiques Posted - 10/05/2004 : 19:07:02
yeah its the same thing, they say who are the greatest artists of the last 50 years, and then they advertise this hall of fame thing, it aint going to be anyone good just the same old same old.

is it 50 greatest artists or the hall of fame program? i've seen a hall of fame advert but not 50 greatest artists....
bumblebeeboy2 Posted - 10/03/2004 : 11:04:02
i've seen the ad a few times too but didn't spot the bossanova globe! it's great if they are in there! didn't think they would be, as they're normally overlooked by those cheap and tacky shows...

Tut, i cant beleive you didn't notice it...

But it's not actually on there any more :(

There was the bos. planet on that advert, then the Breeders "Cannonball" on the Kings of Comedy advert right after it! It was so cool! :D

(stage direction: suspenseful point)
Black Dress Posted - 10/03/2004 : 10:51:19
I must have seen that advert 5 times at least and i still haven't spotted it! :( Anyone know when its on?

Too bad for Mozart, but at least Duke Ellington and Ansel Adams should make the list.
ShakeyShake Posted - 09/29/2004 : 13:21:12
My mistake, past 5 decades, yeah I'm pretty sure it was the bossanova planet though

"I joined the Cult of this guy / 'cause they took my other picture away
charlesthompson Posted - 09/29/2004 : 13:11:44
i duno, the bossanove planet aint exactly hard to mistake for something else...
i havent seen the advert but are you sure it was on......i know that the pixies are in the top 50 (the top 5) but i dont think the rest of the world knows it.....

to many bigwigs who chose bands to promote purely on how much money they can make from them...if they knew a thing about talent and originality then im a duck!

and i aint quackin!
BLT Posted - 09/29/2004 : 13:00:47
How about Ansel Adams? He's one of my all time fave artists.
