Posted - 10/16/2004 : 11:11:40 You all realize that there are WAY more horrible chemicals in manufactured cigarettes a.k.a. "ready rolls" than there are in marijuana, right? Most people who grow marijuana are careful regarding the organics of it while American Cigarette companies spray numerous chemicals on cigarettes for various "good" reasons. The good in quotations is facetious. For example, Benzene, a petroleum-based chemical known to cause cancer specifically leukemia, ammonia, which is supposedly used to give cigarettes a richer flavor and we use it as a cleaning product, actually free-bases when you burn the cigarette and MANY MANY MANY other chemicals. They even spray rat poison directly onto the cigarettes after manufacture while they are being stored. I'm not saying it is, but this could easily be another way for the government to control its people. Cigarette addiction along with hormones injected into our meats and sprayed onto our crops and we now have numerous more physical ailments and conditions than ever before. We have far more allergies in children in the last 20 years than in the last 100. You be the judge.

No, I don't do drugs anymore, either. But I'll tell you something about drugs. I used to do drugs, but I'll tell you something honestly about drugs, honestly, and I know it's not a very popular idea, you don't hear it very often anymore, but it is the truth: I had a great time doing drugs. Sorry. Never murdered anyone, never robbed anyone, never raped anyone, never beat anyone, never lost a job, a car, a house, a wife or kids, laughed my ass off, and went about my day.
Just my own stance on drugs here... I have very good friends who use drugs, my oldest friend has tried and explored everything on the market, he lives in a squat, he's continually broke, he visits me for the odd three day re hab before he kicks off into his world again and he is one of the most intelligent creative people I know. He has ideas and energy he explores his life to the full, he motivates others he has a bilion projects on the go, he attends conferences on exploring the conscious, he brings the right people together and helps them create. Yup there are drugfucks who are drugfucked but I often think that drugs are an enhancer of personality, if you're heading no where fast drugs can push you there even faster, I'm neither a pusher of drugs or anti-drugs. Hash either mellows people and makes them interesting and reflective and calm or it sends people into waster land and I don't think it's always the drugs to blame. I don't partake, they make me sick, really sick but I have no problem with those that chose to as long as the choices they make are informed. Smoking pot, snorting coke taking E or injecting whatthefuckever 'cos your mates do, is stupid.
A lot of the problems with drugs would be settled if there was legalisation and legislation. No bad cuts, no dodgy dealers, whats the point when you could walk into a store and buy a clean regulated taxed dosage/20 pack of joints. The tax in itself could rebuild a hell of a lot of whats wrong with the country. It's stupid. Legalise drugs and prostitution, make them clean and not a dirty little industry, or be a prude and try to forget this dark side exists. Fuck it.
I look like the kind of guy who pimps his sister not just for the money, but because he hates her

Posted - 09/27/2004 : 11:28:06 in england its a case of drug addicts=criminals. their looked upon as the shit on the bottom of the middle class shoe. In older generations there is no understanding. drugs will never go away. its got so big and supply 'n' demand are the best of friends. there will always be drug users, but when it gets extreme, we cant keep shunnin the people who need help. I dont know what the answer is but i think there needs to be more tolerance, compassion, little bit of empathy and plenty of support. but only for those who want it.
legalisation of drugs I believe wont have much of an effect. how much they gonna be sold for, where? maybe it will be cool for people like me who wants a spliff and can walk into a coffee shop and by a 20 bag, i can afford it. but anybody addicted will still be tryin to find the cash to fund the habit, and there will always be dealers just waiting round the corner. if nything, there will be more drugs on the streets.
its too big a trade to ever be policed properly, and so there will always be addicts. i just dont want them pushed away, cant we educate, help and support? its the only way. |

Posted - 09/26/2004 : 15:43:30 Hey Kathryn, I think you rock because you're cool. It doesn't have anything to do with drugs.
I am so sorry to hear about your family member. I can't imagine how difficult it is for you and your family.
Sorry this is off topic--but just wanted to clarify.
I think the difference with addicts/addiction is those people can't help it. They have genes that make them addicted when other people don't. Someone might be able to do substances and not have a problem, where another person might be addicted the first time he tries it. That's the crazy thing, you don't know how it is going to affect you until you try it.
For me, I don't do drugs. It is not something that fits and I think that I did have addictive tendencies...cigarettes, so I stayed clear of harder stuff because I knew the chances were high I might get hooked. It wasn't worth it to try it. For me that works, and it’s the best choice for me, but for other people it might be for them. It's the best thing for my health.
I more or less support people making their own choices about drugs, especially pot because I just don't think it's something the government should be involved in. As long as those people are abiding other laws, it's ok. It just costs so much money to put those people in jail. Also, it seems that people that are going to use are going to use anyway. I think now matter how strict the laws are against drugs; there will always be using them. By legalizing drugs, then that hopefully would reduce the violence associated with the drug trade.
But even then I admit, that's not the perfect solution. It just might be a little better than the situation we have now where so many people that need help with an addiction end up in jail instead of getting the help they need.

I don't rock, actually. I tend to be reflexively critical of drug and alcohol abusers. A family member fatally ODed a few weeks ago, after years of abusing every substance you'd care to name. Instead of being sweet and supportive, we in our family have been harsh and negative with him. Our attitude was, why was repeatedly making shitty choices, and when would he stop? Couldn't he just party once in a while like the rest of us? Why did he have to steal from his own parents to buy heroin? Dealing with him these painful years, I just assume all addicts are scumbags.
So it was humbling and inspirational to see how much thought and respect you put into your post, DaisyGirl. I don't particularly like how strident and critical I am regarding addiction. But once you've had your stuff ripped off while visiting your grandma...

I just feel bad when people bring stuff up about Kim and her alleged addictions. I don't know her, I only know her music. I just think it is personal and I don't think it has anything to do with the music. I honestly would feel like crap if someone caught me on video drunk and publicized it. What I am saying is I know that we are all fans and to some extent intersted in the lives of the bands, but I just wish we would quit talking about Kim in light of her drinking and smoking issues. She's a killer musician and I just wish the focus could stay on that.

I can hear what you are saying... I think if most of us had their wishes the Pixies and Catholics would be rocking out forever and we want everyone to be healthy.
The other way I see it is that Kim and I am guessing her doctors know what is best for her. So, I am trusting that she is doing what's right for her, so I'm not really worried about it.
It seems like a lot of people that make it sound so easy to quit probably never had to quit themselves. Please give Kim a break!
From personal experience, quitting smoking is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. You just have to wait for the right time in your life when your motivated, have support, and the positive attidude so you can quit. It took a lot of time for me to get those planets alligned-- something that might take years.
As far as drugs and jambands-- Actually I like the Dead and other Jam music too. Drugs were part of that scene, but I think it goes back to Jazz Music and maybe even earlier. There are definately pop and alternative musicians that have been on drugs. Plus, there are ALOT of people not in the music industry on drugs too. |
