I am a huge fan of Grant-Lee Buffalo/Phillips. I knew he was a fan of the Pixies, somewhere on the bio at his site he say something like during the 90's there was a lot of disillusionment and he was just waiting round for the Pixies to get back together. But I didn't know till recently he had covered any of their songs like this review says. Don't suppose anybody would know where I might get a copy of anything like this? Grant-Lee is an incredible artist with a fantastic voice - I would love to hear his take on Wave of Mutilation. I went to see him last April and he played a stormin' gig but unforunately no "Wave of Mutilation" which i believe he did on his previous tour alot. Here's an interview I found where he talks about the mutilation cover, Bowie's cactus cover and Dave Lovering. I know Phillips opened for some of the pixies LA gigs - what a line up!

Thanks, chineselover, will check that out!

By the fbf, that sounds like a funny Brian DePalma/bicycle incident.

For anybody thats intersted here is a copy of a simple acoustic version of the mentioned song. Its on Rapidshare, so some download restrictions. Thanks to Vladimir from the Grant Lee Phillips fourum for this.

That's cool-Some GLB stuff is great. I saw them live a few years ago. I always wonder, when I hear artists with an original take on music, if they happen to be Pixies fans. Maybe it's a kind of obsession.

A few years back, Grant lee Philips was playing in my town, but I couldnt go because I had started a new job where I worked nights....anyways, On my way to work, I had passed by the venue and was feeling very sad....it started pouring rain about a block later and I went into a store entrance for cover, running in behind me was the man himself. I introduced myself and told em I would have loved to see the show but couldnt make it....he then invited me to come and watch the soundcheck, which I did, which was very cool, for which I was grateful.

i was doing a little research about other connections between them, turns out that Grant-Lee Phillips's wife, Denise Siegel, played in a band called Eenie Meenie for which Dave Lovering was the drummer. The other member was Kendra Sparks. Heres the homepage of that band - http://www.dungeonkids.com/EENIE/index.html .
