I thought I’d start an appreciation thread for the 1st May 1988 gig on the dvd.
I had had a recording of this on video for years, but I think the dvd release has just confirmed for me that this is one of the best live shows I have ever seen.

It really caught the band in their peak.
Man it would have been unbelievable to have been at this concert.

the play everything so fast and with such power - phenomenal

I also recently acquired an copy of the audio on cd, and it sounds unbelievable all by itself – it is the best live recording I have ever heard. Full stop. And considering it was recorded all the way back in 1988.
I have listened to a lot of live recordings (both professional and otherwise) and this just takes the cake – the drums are just spot on and the guitars and the vocals – absolutely beautiful.

Am I alone in absolutely loving this concert?

yeah, but we need to make some money! It'd mean doing an NTSC format for import only, (although I think Japan use NTSC as well, but I'm not 100% on that) which means it wouldn't be out there in the shops like it should be :)

it's all too long winded to really try explain!
benji Posted - 07/14/2004 : 03:39:10
but then americans could just import it....i'm sure they won't mind...

but are all the videos ever likely to get released in entirety?

4AD have the rights for all the videos, however, not in the US... so as far as anything goes, we could release something, but not in the US... which would be daft... slightly annoying too!
benji Posted - 07/14/2004 : 03:09:12
deal!

yes, some of the videos are on that video you sell, but there's many more than those ones?
when do the rights of those revert to 4ad? ever?

we want to - it's just as a standalone DVD, there's not a lot else to go with it... and an hour long show needs other stuff... yeah, videos could be added... but then they're available via the videos I've been selling the last god knows how long anyway...

if I get a copy, I'll let you come around to my house and watch it :)
benji Posted - 07/14/2004 : 02:47:44
yes please jo.
just get it available any way you can.

and if you get a copy can i have 1?
hehe...

yep, it was taped, we're trying to decide the best place to put this show, as the forthcoming Throwing Muses DVD will only include new things, and we want to do something with it... there are some clips over at www.4ad.com/minisite - we had a couple of tracks converted for there, so you get the idea! Hopefully soon.... I'm just trying to get a copy of it all :)

Some day the concert will be released on DVD as well. The only question is when?

isn't the audio up on beestung.com?
i've got it on cd somewhere, but the quality wasn't anyehere near as good as the pixies one.
i assume that the master is, but just that the circulating copies aren't.

How many records have you produced? Puh-leeze!

fair enough - i take that statement back.

I recorded the DVD to minidisc and listen to it all the time,

I WISH FRANK STILL SANG LIKE THAT!!!! So powerful, Ed is Dead sounds the best .

I agree with Crackety Jones about the analog sound, "pepsi generation" thats funny

Exposing my lack of background here, but the DVD is the first time I ever heard "I've Been Tired" and it took the back of my head out.
I watched the entire concert twice in one sitting.

That one shot of the crowd jumping in unison...can you imagine?

No wonder they (and Frank solo) did and do so much touring in Europe.

Those kids know what the fuck is going ON man!

great bloody show!!! but he does looks very scared, if he's not playing the guitar he's either playing a "air" guitar or just swinging it around, but still its a great concert and great dvd

Come ON Pilgrim.....You know he Loves You!!

Can you imagine seeing the Pixies first and then Throwing Muses? I like both 1 May 1988 performances (the Throwing Muses performance is one of their best gigs ever!).

Yes incredible show. I think Franks voice is better on the current live shows though.
