Today's random song of the day is Stormy Weather.

What do you think of it?

lyrics
It is time
It is time for
It is time for stormy weather

It is time
Oh ho, it is time for stormy weather

For stormy weather

It is time
Whoaw, it is time for stormy weather

It is time
Oh ho, it is time for stormy weather

For stormy weather

It is time
Whoaw, it is time for stormy weather

Were the EPs from Bossanova released before or after the album?

no, havalina is the last song.

In the grand scheme of things, this is the last song before Trompe le monde, were the pixies hinting at something?

"You'll soon be dust your deeds already are, You saw no orb no fiery bushes either, I must be drunk I feel unsteady, No monster me, sadly no saint either... "

IT shows you dont need complicated lyrics, or complicated chords or leads to make a song work. As a matter of fact i have no idea why i like that song at all....shit, it has to be the combination of all of those things and definatly the passion behind it.

I love it. Always have from the first listen, on.

So "oh ho" and "whoa" don't count as words? <g>

Very good song, especially live, check it out in a concert of 1991 at sharing the groove.

I like it a lot.

Great song.
OK the lyrics are really simple and repeated several times but the musical structure is amazing.
And it's really easy to fans to know every word !!!

Seriously, are there people here who skip some Pixies songs ?

I can see how this is one of the more unpopular songs. I dig it a lot. It can be appreciated only in context if you already know what the pixies are usually capable of doing. this minimalist song is like hearing the unspoken potentials hidden in songs like their 'wild honeypie' cover.

most important factor: it rocks.

You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon.' Need I say more?
VoVat Posted - 07/03/2004 : 12:54:18
Apparently it was originally going to be a B-side, but they decided it was good enough to be on an album.

i am with the filler theory too. one of the weakest pixies songs.

i remember years ago, me and my friend went on the hop (mitch, bunk off, don't go!) from school a couple of days in a row, it snowed so we stayed inside drinking tea and listening to 'Stormy Weather'....

Not bad at all really. The song works well on the album, doesn't interupt the flow. Not the kind of song I would show someone who was unfamiliar with the Pixies right away, and not the kind of song I would keep listening to and rocking out to, but it's also not the kind of song that deserves to be skipped when listening to Bossanova.

"There is a new craze in the nation/ it is lamination/ we like to laminate/ we laminate our driver's license/ so cannot be changed"
tisasawath Posted - 07/02/2004 : 16:00:27
wouldn't imagine that 6 words and a few chords can make a wonderful song if I hadn't heard it
VoVat Posted - 07/02/2004 : 15:42:17
It drags a little after a while, but it's pretty cool.

It is time this song gets all the credits it deserves.
One of Bossanova's finest moments.
TheCroutonFuton Posted - 07/02/2004 : 13:06:37
One of the most under-rated songs by the Pixies...period.

It makes me think of the book by Carl Hiassen of the same name, both are fine!

My son likes it - he's 6.

He says "It is time for soggy ragworld!"

I corrected him.
He says, "I know, but i like it this way."

I love this tune by the way.
It needs nothing more - its 'mantra-ish'...

"So many words, so many ideas. You can sing about anything."

One of the few I don't like very much. But they can't all be great.
Carl Posted - 07/02/2004 : 09:21:33
It's suppossedly influenced by The Jesus And Mary Chain, and apparently, at first they did'nt intend to put it on the album. I probably found it a little boring at first, but it's actually pretty cool, a slow, grindy, groovy song-I love Joey's little faster-tempo, break-out lead part!!
Mad Lucas Posted - 07/02/2004 : 05:21:40
Many say this is a filler song. NO PIXIES SONG IS FILLER.
I really like the 'whispyness' of the drums. Really brings Bossa to a beautiful end.

Jesus was a sailor, when we walked upon the water.

i really like this song...
it's just so pretty.

goes very well with havalina....obviously.
