Which one? Mine is Trompe le Monde.

EDIT: BTW, the primary purpose of this is to determine which album has the largest number of uber-fans; I will be performing a vote-count once a week or two has passed. Therefore, I encourage anyone whose absolute fave album is a Pixies album to at least chime in with a quickie vote. Thanks, and keep the comments rolling in. :)

ah ah ur! I can't do a fave album becasue I can't! I can give you a list of albums that I can listen to no matter what my mood is but I will not chose between them because I can't.

1. Radiohead Kid A
2. Pixies Doolittle
3. Radiohead OK Computer
4. TMBG Flood
5. Eels Beautiful Freak
6. Frank Black TOTY
7. Pixies Live at the BBC (and I stand by that! It's damned sexy)
8. Sonic Youth Washing Machine
9. At The Drive In Relationship of Command
10. The Strokes Is this it

and that hurt damnit. Can I have a top twenty instead? I'm sure there's something I missed

can't get into anything these days. Always on the peripheral. Always terrified, exhausted, annoyed, pissed, anxious, out of it-out of the loop, out of my mind, out of time.

My favourite albums are Doolittle, Bossanova and Surfer Rosa. Also, The Cure's & Doors albums but I know that Pixies are the best band ever! I saw them in Coachella, the only thing I can say: uffffff!!!! They're my favourite!
VoVat Posted - 06/12/2004 : 08:00:18
But would any non-Frank albums be in your top ten?

Cattle in Korea / They can really moo.
Hatchetman Posted - 06/12/2004 : 05:11:22
1. Dog in the Sand
2. Frank Black and the catholics
3. Black Letter Days
4. Pistolero
5. Frank Black

I can't think of any other artist that has given me more pleasure over the years than FB. Ten years ago the Pixies would have featured in my top 5, but now they don't. Top ten sure.

Don't get me wrong, I love Trompe Le Monde to bits and by any other band's standards it would be a career highlight but you can't possibly compare it to the first three albums and decide that it's better. And I love Teenager too, and Abstract Plain is just as good as any Pixies song but the spread isn't as good as on, say, Doolittle and the band that Frank put together just wasn't as brilliant as the Pixies. Seeing as the Pixies are up there with the likes of The Who, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin as the perfect four-piece band, that's hardly insulting to any group of musicians Frank put together after 1993, it's just saying that in the aftermath of five near-perfect albums with such an influential group, comparisons are inevitable and in some respects unavoidable. And then there's the same situation as Trompe Le Monde is in: Teenager is a great album on its own merits but it is after all Frank Black and there does seem to be a continuation from the later songs of the Pixies' career and of course Frank's first solo album. After all, as great as the songs are on Bossanova and Trompe, where the group shows signs of slowing down is with the space-obsessed songs that didn't seem to interest the rest of the band, and Frank's solo career gave him the opportunity to explore these themes, but this time without Kim, Joey and Dave, who did manage to hold it together on the last two albums.

I supose it's cooler to say Trompe le Monde is their best album. To be honest I don't think so, but it's not that bad. I'm not with you with Teenager of the Year and Pixies records. They are too different. It's a matter of taste.

The 10 best albums in order are:

Pixies--Surfer Rosa
Sonic Youth--Daydream Nation
Jimi Hendrix--Electric Ladyland
Nirvana--In Utero
Rolling Stones--Exile On Main Street
Pixies--Doolittle
Beatles--White Album
Smiths--The Queen Is Dead
REM--Murmur
Joy Division--Unknown Pleasures

That's just my opinion but Surfer Rosa is undoubtedly the best Pixies album and those people who say Trompe is are just saying that to be different. I think. And anyone who says Teenager Of The Year is better than any Pixies album is insane.

it's so hard to choose favourite albums of all time but both Surfer Rosa and Doolittle are in my top four-or-five, along with Jeff Buckley - Grace and The Smiths - The Queen is dead.

just typing 'surfer rosa' made me think of this but i don't think it's new topic worthy, so.. who the heck are 'Surferosa' and why have they pilfered the name?

Well, well... I can't understand why people is getting angry with me. Perhaps a bad english translation. I mean, I'm alright with you. I don't like any kind of fanatism. This is the reason why I'm on this forum.

So if I'm a Frank/Pixies fan, I can't like another band or another band's albums more? What if I'm a fan of more than one band?

Surfer Rosa is my favourite album of all time - and i think all the other pixies albums are also in my top ten.

I do not consider all of my favorite records to be the greatest records ever. I do, however, consider my favorite record ever: TOTY to be ONE of the greatest albums ever.

So Im headed for the stereo store, to buy a white noise maker, and turn it up to ten.

Good point, fudd. But about 90% of the time, music is influential for a good reason. A total unoriginal band who just imitates what the hip artists do to get on the radio won't have much influence in 20 years. And I won't like them becuase they're nothing special.

I mean, you're right, but normally I understand and agree with why something would have great influence.

Did the Pixies accomplish this to the extent of the Beatles, Nirvana, the Ramones, et cetera?

Re: the impact and influence part--why would you let other people's opinions, even if they are those of well-informed people such as great musicians, determine your favorite record? I mean, they can be great recommendations, but wouldn't you rather make up your own mind what you like best?

There is probably no other person in the world (well, anywhere, actually) who would say anything close to this about Cosmic Wheels.

Though I love the title track...awesome melody.

I don't know. Maybe it's all melody anyway.

You're right-- you do not understand. What are we supposed to do? Lie? If that's what it takes to be a "fan", then I'm not a fan.

You're right about another thing. Pet Sounds is overrated.

Well, my all-time fave record isn't a Pixies one too. But, you know, it's a pretty curious thing.
