Posted - 05/05/2004 : 23:00:17 Frank's dad wasn't really going to name his next son Black Francis, it was just some old family joke.
Frank has at least one other younger brother, Ian. There's a touching story somewhere on the internet about a guy who was friends with Ian in highschool, he said he was very shy and nice. At one point (this was around the time of the first FB album) the two got to hang out with Frank, who bought them both beers despite being under age. |

Posted - 05/05/2004 : 22:13:46 After the Fine Line show last month, I saw Joey hanging around the bar with a couple of people. Later, at the very instant I got back to my hotel (after walking 10+ blocks down Nicollet) a taxi pulled up and the same man and woman emerged from the cab carrying Pixies shirts and CDs. As we walked through the doors to the hotel together, I asked the guy, "Hey, didn't I see you hanging out with Joey Santiago half an hour ago?"
"Yes, he's my brother."
So I spent the next few minutes chatting about the show with Joey Santiago's brother at 2am in the lobby of the Hyatt. A nice little capper to the evening. He said that since he saw the very first Pixies show, he felt obliged to drive out from Massachusetts (Springfield, I think he said) to see the first show of the reunion tour. He also made note of the fact that he didn't have to load equipment for them this time. :)
I told him that I'd been a fan since 1988 but this was still only the first time I'd seen the band live, so I felt that I could die happy now. Even though it was just a figure of speech, he responded with a shocked expression, like he hadn't realized how significant his little brother's band was to some people.
We discussed how well the show went, and he said that Joey only made one mistake, but that he "didn't think anybody noticed." (Right. 1,000 fans who've spent the last fifteen years obsessing over every note in the oeuvre, and nobody noticed.) Like an asshole, I blurted out, "You mean where he f--ked up the encore of Wave of Mutilation?" I felt like a jerk as soon as the words left my mouth, but he was cool about it.

Posted - 05/05/2004 : 17:41:39 I know Frank has a brother named Errol, and I think he's older than Frank, but I'm not sure. I assume Frank's dad didn't have any more sons after Frank himself, since "Black Francis" is the name that Charles Thomspon III was going to give his next son if he had had one. If anyone knows more about Frank's family, though, I'd like to know.
I've reached 1000 posts / So I'm too cool to be in a cult. |

Posted - 05/05/2004 : 08:58:18 When I saw the Pixies at the Orpheum in Boston during the Trompe tour, some little kid was escorted on stage and annouced "Please welcome my brother's band ... THE PIXIES!!!" He was then seen rocking out on the side of the stage.

Posted - 05/05/2004 : 08:14:05 The boy on Hang On To Your Ego is called Parker and from what I've heard he is Frank's little brother(half brother maybe?).Kelley can also be seen playing synth with Dave on the DVD.And Kim and Kelley have a brother whom I believe is the last guy(sitting next to his wife probably) shown during Kim's Seattle family scene. |

Posted - 05/05/2004 : 03:02:40 You can see Kelley talking to Kim at one point. And Tanya Donnelley is hiding offstage, trying to get away from the camera.
