Posted - 04/28/2004 : 10:21:12 OK, I'm farily new to the band and am wondering where all the "Frank hates Kim, Kim hates Frank" stuff came from. Did they do a lot of badmouthing each other during the years between the break up and the reunion? It was just seemed weird after seeing/hearing how it was Kim and Charles who were chatting the most during shows and having the most fun with this recent reunion thingy. |

The only "bitchy" comments I've read were regarding song writing credits, with Frank basically saying that he wrote everything - except maybe half a song (presumably meaning Gigantic) - kind of catty since Kims always had the credit for that puppy.
I didn't know Kim had a drink/drugs problem when she was in the Pixies, I know she fired Kelley from the Breeders because of her coke addiction.

He said that in his first NME interview after going solo. I think.

Yeah I sure got my wrist slapped for that question, I wasn't as blunt as 'Why do you hate Kim Deal?' though, but I did mention there being a general vibe of bad feelings between the two, which is what I had been led to believe by the various articles I read. I was told not to believe everything I read, which looking back is damn good advice. I do tend to believe anything in print for some reason.

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 18:57:25 I remember Frank said in an interview(either one of the guitar mags or Revolver) when asked about Kim that he had not talked to her since the last gig they did before the split,no bad mouthing or anything. When Kim was asked about Frank she answered that he was making some kind of progressive rock which was not bad(which gives me the idea that she had bought or at least heard his post pixies music.Anyway the past is the past LET THERE BE PIXIES ROCK!!!! |

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 15:26:59 I always thought it was about $$$$$. BF was collecting most of the royalties form album sales etc. because of songwriting credits and after they started getting big (selling more records) the rest of the band wanted more and BF said, no way! I did hear that they split gig money evenly though.

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 15:26:50 The 'half song' is Silver. There's an interview where Frank talks about him and Kim waiting in the studio one evening and writing it together.
Kelley wasn't fired from the Breeders. She got busted for heroin addiction in 1995 and was forced into rehab. Poor girl. At least she got herself sorted. And Kim is rather protective of her in interviews.

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 14:29:10 I've heard something before about TLM being recorded basically separately.

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 14:23:14 Wasn't there once some meeting in LA with lawyers and agents and all that where Kim was about to be fired but they some how kept it together ... at least for a little while. I remember reading that there was some specific incident, something that Kim did, which lead to this meeting, but no one has ever discussed what exactly it was. I think the was around Bossanova/Trompe Le Monde. Also, wasn't TLM basically recorded with the various band members going into the studio by themselves to lay the tracks and not as a complete band?
Does that ring a bell to anyone? |

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 14:01:29 in fact, the only kim related comments i can remember charles making were saying that he should have fired "certain people" from the band - i always assumed that meant kim, since he and joey played together a lot post pixies and because lovering has sat in with the catholics at least once and then in one interview some guy asked something like "why do you hate kim deal?" and charles flipped out, saying basically "you have no idea about how i feel about anyone in the world, how dare you make an assumption like that"

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 12:42:50 Of course I have not read all the post-Pixies interviews from them, but I have the impression that Kim was a taboo subject for Frank Black while Kim was usually very positive about him. I remember of at least two interviews in which she had only good things to say about him. |

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 12:28:02 when did kim first write material for the breeders? i dont understand why she (even though there are still some amazin bass lines...) has less input on the last 2 pixies albums.
do you think kim, joey and dave never wanted the band to split. well not at that moment in time. |

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 12:12:57 Actually, I was thinking of this questiojn while watching this DVD. It's interesting how comfortably they let let Kimn kind of take the lead...at least with crew guys who was following them. A highlight is Kim staring at Dave after the 12 year old fan gives him a phone number...that was a pricless moment. It's like "What the fuck were you thinkng?". |

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 12:08:08 The only actual quote was from a second source that said that Kim said to a fans question of "When will the Pixies get together again" and her answer was "When Charles stops being an asshole".
I dunno...I just like the way things are going so far... :) |

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 12:08:02 Also blame some of the people who made bootlegs.Who can forget such titles as "Don't Need No Fat Man" a Breeders boot. And "No Big Deal" a Frank solo boot.On the DVD you can see a great camaraderie between the two of them.Frank sitting next to her in a press conference,Both lying on the Grass for a photo session I believe and looking at some souvenier bottle openers in the tour bus(maybe Kim bought them for her pals in Guided By Voices). And finally their voices were meant to be heard together,it's just a magical thing that happens only to the best in their field. The hatchet has been deeply buried and they are having a blast and hopefully will make lots of money to continue their individual careers with the Breeders and The Catholics, and if they feel like it give the world a new Pixies album. |

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 10:44:24 It came in large part from the media. There's probably a little truth to it (creative differences, etc), but I imagine that like everything else, the media has blown it completely up to 'make it interesting'.
