Posted - 11/02/2004 : 19:29:17 that would be a good question to ask frank if he ever stops back: what is the mysterious 18th song on the purple tape/ or if watch what youre doing was ever recorded. |

Posted - 11/01/2004 : 00:52:34 that's true..... no true studio version of boom chicka boom exist not counting radio performances so maybe...

Posted - 10/31/2004 : 14:41:28 Now that Frank Black Francis [demo] has been released, I think there is some more weight to the theory that Boom Chickaboom could be the extra/18th purple tape track, maybe..............?

no there isn't more weight to it I'm very sure that track you are talking about is a Lary Norman song (just like 666) it was called something in the likes of Whatch what you are doing

What I mean is: Every song that appears on the FBF demo disc was eventually recorded in a full version and released, whether it was Come On Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa or whatever. Maybe Boom Chickaboom was never recorded properly, I don't know... but there is no compelling evidence to suggest that Watch What You're Doing was ever recorded either, other that rumour. Frank was/is obviously influenced by Larry Norman and WWYD would have been a great song to cover, I'm just not sure that it ever happened, that's all...

I think it's named after the way Johnny Cash used to describe his guitar style early on - he used to wind paper in and out of the strings to get a percussive effect, hence the 'chicka' part.

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 05:48:12 It can be found only in live version in 2 bootlegs both radio recordings :
The Fallout(Fallen?)Shelter 15 Dec.1986 WJUL Studios University of Lowell,MA
and
a WERS radio show(i don't remember the exact date).
I think that the second one is available as mp3 in the fb.net FTP (read the f.a.q thread in the ftp section for more). If so you can download the show from there.
