so... The Frames, from Ireland, are one of my fave bands of the recent last few years. i'd read about them covering Debaser from time to time, but never heard it, or seen em do it any of the times i've seen em here live.

a friend of mine sent me a link to them covering it at the Witnness Festival last year though. the quality isn't GREAT, but it's totally listenable. kinda cool to hear them play it, and the solo played on violin :)

I seen Frank doing an accoustic solo gig in Dublin over a year ago.It was outstanding, setlist was golden and he came out for 3 enchores. Glen Hansard "Frames Lead singer" was standing right in front of me all the way through. We chatted with him a small while, hes a huge fan of Frank and they are friends. Done a radio show with Frank if memory serves me right. It was cool though, people werent bothering Glen. He was just another Frank fan at that gig, just blended in with the rest. Was no big deal, was great to see.

Hang on to your Taco!

wow that sounds deadly!! i saw the setlist for the gig-looked like a perfect mix of old and new and covers. Ye're lucky ye can see the Frames play gigs like that in the States, they've gotten so big in Ireland now that when they tour, they play in all seater theatres..Can't wait for their (long overdue) new record

wow, the Chicago headlining gig at the Hideout was fucking brilliant.

not only did they cover Where Is My Mind? after Revelation (segued right into the full song), during the main set, but the closing song of the night (after 2:15, and about 4-5 "encores" lol), was all the members of The Frames along w/ members of their road crew, Lisa Hannigan from Damien Rice's band (who joined on a few other songs during the night), playing Gigantic (with Glen on Bass & Vox). they just wouldn't leave the stage, they did some really great cover (i don't recall what it was right now), with Glen on bass, then as they were ready to leave the stage for the final time, Glen started playing the Gigantic riff on bass :D

one of the best shows i've ever seen, easily :)

ya, they're playing down limerick next monday 3rd .... they've also played Rock Music at gigs..
but dunno if there is an mp3 of that around, was during an encore for a gig in '99 i seem to recall, also in limerick..

It's stunning isn't it! Stays fairly faithful to the original, but the violin doing the vocal'OOOOOoooohhhh' bit is cool..I love at the end when he's trying to get the crowd to sing it.."Sing it for the Pixies"!

oh man!!!!! that is WONDERFUL, thank you so much brian :)
they do that one even better than Debaser imo

might have to see if i can get em to cover that or Debaser tomorrow :)

Somebody told me Frank joined the Frames on stage for Debaser....true or false? I have a pic in a magazine of FB playing acoustic in a pub or somewhere, with Hansard singing along!

hey thanks for those other mp3s Brian!

i'm driving to Chicago on Monday to catch the Frames headline a small pub on an off night of their tour w/ Damien :)
should be great, only the 2nd time i'll have seen em headline, and i'm sure it'll be longer than the first time i saw em headline in Oct 02.

yeah they do an amazing version of it don't they-that time at witnness frank was supposed to come out with them but apparently he'd gone off to a country fair or something!!......it's worth pointing out that its glen hansard is the main guy in the frames-he did a radio session with frank last year..glen and the frames have covered loadsa pixies songs at gigs, and segued into a Pixies song in the middle of a Frames song

Here's some more mp3s..

That's a pretty darn good cover. The drummer does admirable job, though he's not quite David Lovering. Thanks for the link solace. By the way, only total wankers don't get the gyro at Pita Pit...
