Posted - 04/22/2004 : 21:37:25 Tbe best band ever if you need to pick your mood up. I mean, I love Frank's solo & Catholic stuff too, but I'll suspect I'll always like the Pixies stuff the best. I suppose people like me, who discovered the Pixies in their heyday, have a completely different perspective than someone who discoved Frank's solo stuff first, and then found out he used to be in some band called the Pixies. But I just think they had a chemistry that is rare, that very few bands have. So I really hope they put out some new material. Some people have said "what if it sucks?" but I just can't imagine it sucking. I mean, if Frank's recent album haven't sucked, I don't see why a Pixies record would. I hope we find out. |

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 11:32:52 I love them because I had never heard a whole album of theirs until I bought Bossonova on casette at a garage sale for $1. Once I heard it, I didn't take it out of the stereo for a long time, and I was well on my way to being a Pixies freak and later a Frankophile. Best dollar I ever spent. |

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 08:18:11 They didn't stop after TLM. Each did there own thing, not living in the past with just Pixies stuff. Their indivual music just keeps getting better and better and shooting off in many different directions. |

Posted - 04/21/2004 : 23:05:35 I like the Pixies for many reason. One, is when I first heard them, all the main stream radio music sucked at the time. but it still does. so I guess for a while they made a difference. The biggest reason is that it's pretty/ugly music. I was blown away by the in your face vocal/guitar and then here is this nice pretty chorus. All the angels sang then all hell broke loose again. CT showed to me that he could make me happy on every cd release since on at least one song.

Posted - 04/18/2004 : 15:18:44 They make all other music seem boring even when its really not - and no matter how many new bands i find - i always come back to the Pixies.
3rd Annual Australian Frank Black Countdown August 2003 - all involved parties rank EVERY released FB song from FB self/titled to the present - average ranks are calculated - beer (or suitable substitute) is added (mostly in drinking-game form - ie. rate a song well below its average and you drink a punishing amount), then sit back and enjoy a day of frank black....the only problem is quite often memory of the top songs is somewhat limited the next day |

Posted - 04/18/2004 : 13:06:13 Something about their simplicity. They dont seem to try too hard, they just play. And their music never gets old...I mean, it still sounds rather current. I just love what they do. |

Posted - 04/18/2004 : 13:00:29 The Pixies had an amazing level of consistency throughout their relatively short time together. They were always trying something new, yet retaining the quality and energy of their songs.
I've reached 1000 posts / So I'm too cool to be in a cult. |

Posted - 04/18/2004 : 12:25:01 If you have had bad experiences that you relate their songs to, then that will definately be the reason. I am the same with some bands now ever since my break up with my girlfriend two years ago.
That's the power of music I guess.

Posted - 04/18/2004 : 12:17:47 I'm not crazy about the Pixies, but I'm here. I think the Pixies were just a rudimentary FB. Sure, Doolittle was crazy and features loads of great songs like "Hey", "Debaser", "Wave of Mutilation"....catchy little ditties that combined the surf guitars with pop hooks and a lot of soft/loud dynamics and male/female harmonies and beautiful codas .......
but it's never more brilliantly written than "Los Angeles".
Maybe I'm just a bit sick of the Pixies with all the reunion talk going on, though. Maybe I'm just bitter because of some personal life events. I don't know. Maybe in a couple of months, i'll restore unto myself the love and appreciation for the great Pixies.
