i predict that the pixies will not play many songs off trompe le monde. why? b/c Mrs. John Murphy is less involved vocally. i bet black with feel a little obligated to involve the lovely bassist as much as he can. so that means hearing 'gigantic' and 'into the white', among others. gigantic is great, into the white is OK. its too bad b/c if it were up to me, i'd love to hear more of trompe and less of pilgrim. we'll see....

4AD didn't piggyback! trust me - it took about two years of legal stuff to make the DVD available now! Otherwise it probably would have been out sooner. it's a nice coincidence... these things happen
madtempest Posted - 04/23/2004 : 08:53:26
I don't really think the pixies are touring to support the CD/DVD releases... to me it seems more like the band decided to reunite and tour, and 4AD decided to piggyback and make some money on it all.
Steak n Sabre Posted - 04/22/2004 : 07:59:17
I think it's only natural that they are playing their "easier" material right now. As the tour goes on, some of the more complex songs should find their way into the set. Who's singing probably does not have much to do with it....

Second, even though Kim didn't sing a lot on Trompe le Monde, there are plenty of backing vocals to be sung...and Frank can't sing them. Just because she's not on the record, doesn't mean she's eliminated from doing them live. Plus, they know they've traditionally not done them, so they want to kind of surprise the fans. I like Trompe le Monde, so this is my hope.

so far my prediction is coming true. not many songs off Trompe le Monde. and its starting to bother me. i see the Pixies in Spokane this saturday and really want Trompe songs. reading some of the show reviews it seems like Frank is trying to involve Kim vocally as much as possible (wasn't there a show review saying something about Frank asking Kim if she wanted to sing lead on Gouge Away). fu#k her. let her sing gigantic and lead on in heaven, and be done with it. some of the Pixies best songs are on Trompe. play those songs already!

Well, they played Alec Eiffel back in 'The Day', regardless of fadey outros, Motorway too...

I'd like to hear Dancing the Manta Ray, just because the Catholics kicked ass on that and I'd like to hear the Pixies kick their asses back!

would love to hear alec eiffel and motorway. but i can see them not playing either of those b/c of the songs respective outros. 'alec' fades out, and i am not a big fan of bands just ending a song when the song is recorded differently on the album. 'motorway' is similar. who is going to play the piano (it is a piano, isn't it??) on the song?

Damn right that would be garbage!!! If they even lower themsleves to play one AC/DC song then I'll be incensed!!!

krom and proz... i agree.

It is so important for the vibe for the band to play their faves. No matter what the crowd is going to love anything even if they cover coppa cabaña or freebird.

As far as the hits go I hope the band goes deep...I am speculating they will be releasing an album soon and if they tour with that in the fall, it will be harder for them to go back and cover this history in the future.

on their Trompe la Monde Tour I heard that they did some new stuff but also did a lot of their older stuff. what ever is on the playlist, all us fans are going to like no matter what.
kromkamp Posted - 04/03/2004 : 17:14:47
Oh I hope they play songs they have fun playing. I would guess that would not be strictly 'The Hits', though.

I was thinking that they would play the songs they have fun playing.

I want to hear Oh My Golly! live so bad. Have they ever done that one live? Don't remember seeing it anywhere around..

Velouria, No.28 on the UK chart! Hit City!

It'd be nice to get a few less obvious songs, but there's no way I wouldn't be ecstatic listening to the Pixies play songs like Velouria, Debaser, Where Is My Mind etc. The most exciting point of my life to date was hearing the Catholics play Caribou at the Astoria in London last October, so I'm pretty sure I'll be happy whatever they play. A few wrong'uns would be cool though - I've heard suggestions for the 'lost purple tape' number, which might be quite fun.

They had a hit? Sure?

Jo, how many 'casual' Pixies fans do you think there are? I've never met one. Either you love the band or you dont like 'em at all.

And, realistically, how many of them got tickets for shows that sold out in 3 minutes?

hard core Pixies fans want to hear no less than 6 lesser known tracks, of which at least one must be a B-side. I'm putting my foot down

I'm a Surfer Rosa guy, but some Trompe would be great too. Letter to Memphis and Head on. What's the matter? I like Head on.

I really hope this isn't an "AC/DC" type of tour where they give you strictly the "shook me all night longs" and the "thunder strucks" because that would be complete garbage. I demand Letter to memphis, I demand motorway to rosewell, I request the sad punk..... scratch that, DEMAND the sad punk.

Ok, I'll give it to ac/dc.... they did suprise me with the "hell aint a bad place to be's" and the "Get it hot's" and "Dog eat Dog's" on the stiff upper lip tour, so.... I at least hope it's a greatest hits with a few suprises kind of tour....

Well, I don't know about all THAT. There are some pretty incessant whiners though....

I really really hope they give Trompe the onstage credit that its due...I mean, when will we ever get another chance to hear those songs given a live workout after this whole thing is over? That's right, never again.
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 04/02/2004 : 10:13:23
I think they will play a good selection of songs from all the albums.

Whatever they do or don't play, people on here will still moan and whinge. Even if they play every song, some would complain that they were on for too long, so they can't win really.

I don't care which of their songs they play, so long as they play and play well.

I'd gladly see them not play so many songs off Trompe Le Monde in favor of songs from the other albums. I'd love to hear "Lovely Day" though, and what are the chances of that, huh?

I wouldn't look at it like that - chances are they're playing all the hits, because lets face it, even though most board regulars here would love to hear more obscure tracks, the casual fan who got a ticket might only know the more popular tracks...

I'd say they're not promoting the new Best Of as such, as well, purely because they're not signed to 4AD, so it's not like there's any real benefit in them doing so - they're playing the songs that will appeal to as many people as possible (and the fact most of them will probably be on the Best Of is kind of self-explanatory, I guess :))

Really hope you are wrong !! Dying to hear Trompe and Bossanova tunes. With your theory in mind they could still do Space(i believe in)with Kims lovely backing and hopefully songs like Ana and Blown away.
porkbone1 Posted - 04/01/2004 : 17:42:41
I originally thought this, especially after I saw the Gouge documentary which barely mentioned their last 2 albums.

Then again, press releases have said multiple times, "they will be playing all the hits" -- This, to me, is a reminder that the Pixies are promoting their new "best-of" CD Wave of Mutilation. This CD has three songs from Trompe on it, so I predict we will hear at least these three.
