Forgive me if I'm wrong but Franks first two solo albums were released by 4ad, yet on their website under past artists he doesn't get a mention.
Any particular reason for this?

No, I think they did part on as good a terms as you could, under the circumstances. I recall an interview where FB contrasted his experience leaving 4AD and then his leaving American Recordings (or whoever it was who released Cult Of Ray).

He said he went to 4AD because he thought they could have promoted TOTY better, and asked to leave, and they said words to the effect of "sure, good luck with the future" and didn't penalise him greatly. Whereas after COR he got quite royally shafted when he tried to get off the label.

Lest we forget, he once described 4AD as "the best little record company ever to pay on time."

So - moral of the thread being - A) never trust 4ad and B) people should update their sites more often, and if they did 'A' would not be an issue.

ok, im bored.

yeah, at the moment most of the backcat artists are ones that recently left the label, or had newer backcat projects (Lush, Modern English, Heidi Berry, Colourbox all had Best Of's) - as and when the new site happens, there will be a FB section!

Having said that, bands like His Name Is Alive and Piano Magic (as well as Throwing Muses who are backcat again), are still showing as current artists...

I believe their website is going to have an overhaul someday. I assume they'll list all artists then.

yeah, it's not restricted just to FB - i'd guess a majority of their now-defunct artists are not mentioned.

i don't think it's anything malicious.

True, I didn't find him in the Artists section... But they do sell the albums. You can still get FB, TOTY and the Headache single from the shop.

ah fair enough. maybe because he's still an active artist, they don't want to publicise the fact that he's on a different label now...

but they still should sell those albums on 4ad shouldn't they? are they still licensed to 4ad or not? it's a crime if they are and it's not mentioned on the site!
