Posted - 03/06/2004 : 00:26:24 My favorite moment is in "All Over the World".
Is starts off 'slow and light', and then the distortion and crazy santiago guitar just fucking blast in from nowhere and jam - frank black says "everybody, rock out!". Thats my favorite moment. It may sound like a ridiculous question, but honestly, what is more important in life than rocking out?
Reason: it's the ultimate mutherfuckin cool line - its fucking clinical. He says it like a musical dictator whose mission is to teach everyone how to rock.
It's explosive - franks whispers a tease through the first few lines of the song, and then suddenly santiago belts out his chaotic musical sense through the guitar (and frank says passively "everybody, rock out" as an agreement/in support of santiago's expression). blah blah, blah... Its just the coolest part of all thier songs. -Eli |

Posted - 06/19/2004 : 12:24:43 A new favorite moment: Frank gives Joey a sweaty little hug when his guitar breaks during Vamos at Paris' Le Zenith. Kim and Dave has a good laugh. Joey then pulls the plug.

Posted - 06/18/2004 : 14:38:07 At the fine line when David started Bone Machine and then Kim kicked in, god that was just so incredible even though Kim botched the bass line. The energy that was flowing through the crowd and through me at that moment was so insane. I still get a rush listening to that part of the show on the Disclive recordings and watching it on the video clips that we were lucky enough to get.
Either that or the first time I heard them since I wasn't lucky enough to see them back in the day. |

Posted - 06/14/2004 : 15:41:33 One of my favourite moments - and there is a few - but one that many might not have heard.. In 1991, part of the trompe le monde tour, the pixies played The Point (very big venue) in Dublin.. as The Happening starts, Franks says with that cool Happening intro in the backround… "Now for the first time on this tour the trucks were empty and they told me that the whole PA was out on stage, so we should be plenty loud, Ray are we loud? We should be plenty loud with the trucks being empty now… all the PA is out there should be no reason we shouldn’t be plenty loud…” and then he roars (like i haven't even heard frank roar before!) THEY GOT A RANCH THEY CALL NO 51.. It just sounds fuckin’ great!

Actually, I think my best bit is the outro of Tame, particularly those long "tame!"'s which kind of rise up. Wicked.

Posted - 06/03/2004 : 15:25:51 - in 'dead' where the guitars really kick in (with the 'hey! whaddya know? your lovely! taaaan belly! is starting to grooow!') is great
- in subbacultcha "she SHAKES and she MOVES me or somethin!" (especially on the bbc cd)
- levitate me's "come on pilgrim, you KNOW he loves you!"
- screaming near the end of 'ed is dead' & the E.I.D, E.I.D, E.I.D, no, no, no, no, NO :D
- you fuckin' die ;)
- bone machine's "you're so PRETTY when you're unfaithful to me!" & "he bought me a soda..."
- all of 'hey', especially "that the mother MAKES when the baby BREAKS!"
& of course "rock me joseph alberto santiago" |

Posted - 05/05/2004 : 23:48:07 This is a great thread, and I agree with every post so far. It's hard to choose a favorite moment out of so many little bits of magic, but I've always loved the beginning of "Dig for Fire". Dave's drumming starts out so off-kilter, Joey drops in a few notes that seem a millisecond or two off the beat, but then everything just somehow syncs up after a couple of measures. That's beyond cool to me. |

Posted - 05/03/2004 : 16:38:11 It happened some time in February when I read on line that the Pixies were reuniting for a Festival, then they announced a warm-up tour that would come through my home town, I was grinning ear to ear until I couldn't get tickets for the show, but everything worked out OK!

Posted - 04/28/2004 : 04:33:15 Yeah - that is the most amazing line, one of many on Trompe that get forgotten about. Lyrically I think Trompe is just and amazing album, but Bird Dreams is so evocative and etheral - breathtaking stuff.

Posted - 04/26/2004 : 19:03:02 There a moment in Bird Dream Of The Olympus Mons that always affects me, I don't know why. Its the part where frank sings "Sun shines in the rusty morning Skyline of the olympus mons". Can't say why, that just does it for me.

Posted - 04/23/2004 : 11:22:21 One of my favourite: "i bossanova with shooou.." and inmediately the begin of that kind of bossanova jam, mixed with esquizoid guitar and this tok tok behind, a classical sound of the brasilian rithm... i think black wants to say "YOU" and it means, all the lyric: i done this fuckin new rithm with you...
