It might be too early but you know we got to do this eventually.

Primrose
You’re So Impatient
Jane The Night the Zombies Came
Chicken
Hypnotised
Johnny Good Man
Motoroller
I Hear You Mary
Oyster Beds
Mercy Me
Ernest Evans
Kings of the Prairie
The Vegas Suite

This is one on my favorite FBF albums over 34 years of listening so it’s hard to kill any of these gems

Feel free to cast the first stone

Not impressed with JohnnyBadDecision but I agree with Hypnotised for the next round.

Hypnotized - the lyrics sink the song (like "Hear Me Out", another non-Charles lyric).
billgoodman Posted - 11/12/2024 : 13:58:24
Yeah, maybe. But to me it combines a lot of average stuff (at least three) in one song.
The super pop beginning, with the super country chorus that feels out of place with the feel of the rhythm and the creepy "I've been hexed" parlando bit with the four on the floor.

It has a few seconds of weirdness. That doesn't make it weird. It's stunningly average for 90% of the song.
billgoodman Posted - 11/12/2024 : 11:18:15
I like that one, because it's so weird. I do think it's also kind of annoying.
Keep Pixies weird

Hypnotised.

The verses make me cringe. Miley Cyrus is very apt. And that's not what I want to hear on a Pixies album.
billgoodman Posted - 11/12/2024 : 09:30:30
Ernest Evans, enjoyable but kind of filler too

Allright, John and Mary are off the island pursuing other interests. Round three starts now:

Gone:
I Hear You Mary
Johnny Good Man

Still Surviving:

Primrose
You’re So Impatient
Jane The Night the Zombies Came
Chicken
Hypnotised
Motoroller
Oyster Beds
Mercy Me
Ernest Evans
Kings of the Prairie
The Vegas Suite
Bedbug Posted - 11/11/2024 : 06:03:46
I'm between Mary and Johnny - Mary is kind of forgettable and Johnny is like a blend of HC and FMRM, which is fine but again not one of his best. I'll pile on to Johnny I guess to help get move things along.

Hypnotised is weird and fun, and feels like he wrote it for Miley Cyrus to perform and she couldn't do it so he did it.

This is what the votes look like so far, with 24 hours to go in round 2 before we move to round 3:

Primrose
You’re So Impatient
Jane The Night the Zombies Came
Chicken
Hypnotised - 2
Johnny Good Man - 4
Motoroller
Oyster Beds - 1
Mercy Me
Ernest Evans
Kings of the Prairie
The Vegas Suite

Hypnotised (I'd be happy to get rid of Johnny too to save time)
Active Duck Posted - 11/10/2024 : 23:49:00
Johnny Good Man. Too many echoes of better songs.
billgoodman Posted - 11/08/2024 : 00:53:11
Johny Goodman and Ernest Evans to go

The best are Primrose, Oyster Beds, Chicken and Jane for me

Please make that topic about Joey on the mandolin. I think you are onto something.

Yes please ! By far the 3 best songs of the album.

Oyster beds to go.

Interesting, I listen a lot to this album (mostly in my car). To me, Primrose is the blandest song ever released by Pixies/Frank/Black/Francis. It doesn’t even recall a Frank Black song… Compared to it, You’re Such A Wire sounds like a symphony! Mercy me is a nice little revamp of Dog Gone/In The Sand while Vegas Suite is a perfect parody of the spirit of a Larry Norman song that would suit a dump pro-Trump (excuse the pleonasm). “He’s coming to save us…”.

My 3 favorites are: Jane (The Queen of the Album), Oyster Beds (because my son loved the video of “le caillou tout fou”) and Ernest Evans which sounds like a good old British punk track from the golden gloomy days. Oh… if only the lead guitar player would give up playing his guitar like it’s a mandolin… But that's the other RED HOT TOPIC… Let’s discuss all this Gaël, I’ll be in Paris from the 20th up to the 28th of November. That would be great to confront our visions, again... You know my number (look up the name)! #128522;

Johnny Good Man is the weaker song, it takes no chances and isn't doing itself any favours.

Johnny Good Man is one of the best songs on record! The very first time I heard the riff return in the chorus I was going it would be brilliant if Joey sustained it on the way out and he did. 5 times in all. Just great. I love it!!!

Let the Zombie wars commence.

Just a matter of time it seems? Doggerel had some songs like that and TNTZC is a lot more releaxed than the former record (Nomatterday, Dregs of the wine)

Yeah I think Hypnotised as well. Just a bit bitty compared to the others.

Johnny Good Man.

I think I hate it.

Otherwise, Hypnotized.

That's right, Chicken is moving up for me, only because the music is OK.
Brank_Flack Posted - 11/06/2024 : 07:27:39
My next tier consists of: You're So Impatient, Hypnotized, and Johnny Good Man.

I'm going to go with Hypnotized. While it's grown on me, the Joey-penned lyrics are particularly weak. This isn't to throw shade on Joey, I believe in a recent interview his immediate response to being asked to write lyrics was to wonder what Charles is smoking.

This might be a small thing, but while I like the transition from the upbeat to slow sections, the phaser effect that marks the transition makes me cringe.

Well the first round is in the books my friends.

Mary, we hardly knew you.

Looking forward to seeing who is the next not to survive

Yes everyone here we go!

Voting officially starts today

I believe we have traditionally done one week between rounds? Is that right? Too long / short?

Thanks Brank for compiling the votes up to this point and for co-leading this election.

I"m going to go with I Hear You Mary myself, so it looks like we are here so far:

Primrose - 0
You’re So Impatient - 1
Jane The Night the Zombies Came - 0
Chicken - 1
Hypnotised - 2
Johnny Good Man - 0
Motoroller - 0
I Hear You Mary - 3
Oyster Beds - 1
Mercy Me - 0
Ernest Evans - 1
Kings of the Prairie - 0
The Vegas Suite - 0

Let the people speak, and let us know your votes (and always feel free to double check my math)

It's totally up to you, but I'd recommend making today the deadline for round 1, as we've already done a week, most of the active forum members have voted, and Mary seems to be running away with the vote. Probably better to keep some momentum going by starting round 2 tomorrow?

Sounds good to me.

We may not know who won the US election by tomorrow, but we will at least know the first TNTZC song not to survive.

Any stragglers please get your votes in by end of day, and for those who already voted please be ready with your second victims.

Mary is another song that has Fastman Raiderman verses, but then a dumb Dalgety chorus.

I don't enjoy it, and I'll throw a vote towards it. But I still think Chicken bothers me more, because Mary at least has nice lyrics.

Two tight elections today.

Mary and Hypnotized neck and neck with 2 votes apiece, with Chicken, You're So Impatient, Oyster Beds (madness), and Ernest Evens not far behind.

Maybe we will start the first round of voting on Election Day. If that’s enough time for everyone to be ready. Tell your FBFriends and tell them to join in

Probably either Hypnotized or Mary, I'll try to decide soon. Mary is *probably* the better song but suffers from production issues.

Bedbug, you're not alone in Ernest Evans reminding you of TOTY!

Listened again last night and have decided on Mary - a song that has gothic potential but gets a bit bogged down in classic rock and overproduced choruses.
Troubles A Foot Posted - 10/30/2024 : 23:19:21
You're So Impatient frustrates me, because if you're going to do a dumb rocker to pick the album's energy up, make it really fucking crazy and cool and fun, but it's just boring.

I'd vote for Impatient after Chicken.
