Didn't Gil say it was mostly recorded live with a few minimal overdubs. So that's just his vocal mic picking up the unamped sound from his guitar?
Or maybe you're right Champ, the vocals could have been done separately.

I don't believe that "isolated" Hey track is the same one we hear on the album. I didn't go as far as listening to each and comparing to be sure and trying to spot tone or inflection differences (and I never will), but I can tell the allegedly isolated track has some very quiet guitar playing in the background, so it's not pure, it's been manipulated, and the cuts clearly stem from an effort to hide something. In other words, it's not really a pure isolated track, it's something edited, and the job is a little botched.

i wasn't annoyed but found the blatant cuts to be surprising. i wonder if those are smoothed out during the mix or if it actually is like that on the album but you just don't notice
with tools nowadays you would never have a track like that. but I feel like even in 1989 it would be cleaner
the other thing that surprised me is how "roomy" the track sounds. sounds like he's in a small space with not much sound baffling

that is pretty crazy.
i have heard the multitrack stuff before that someone posted ages ago, think that was off that PS3 game.
the Hey vocals i find really annoying with the cuts. odd that you don't notice that at all on the regular track.
but debaser is very cool.
as for the source - seems it's taken off the album tracks.
