It's fairly clear that Kurt wanted to be immersed in all things 'Pixie' related. I wonder what the last thing was he wanted to ask Kim? Interesting interview! Time certainly has been kinder to 'Pixies than 'Nirvana'. I just think it's the innovation and originality, it just stands up really well. Don't listen much to Nirvana anymore.... quote:

Kurt hung out with Kim Deal for a while after the Pixies split up. Kim's sister, Kelley, claims that he had a crush on her.

You can hear Pixies influence throughout lots of bands through the 20 years since their hey day and more recently. I've met new fans half my age who are more obsessed with them now than I was back then. On the other hand I don't think I could say the same thing about Nirvana. If the Pixies hadn't split then who knows maybe they would have superceded Nirvana back then, and maybe wouldn't have been as popular as they are now. Maybe, like Nirvana, they would have released a few more mediocre albums and everyone would then remember them by that, hypothetically. Either way I'm still grateful for a huge back catalogue of FB stuff which I should really listen to more, if it weren't for the countless new bands coming coming out these days and copying their style, and doing it rather well.
I saw Dinosaur Jr in 1998 in Manchester Academy, for free because I worked in the pub across the road. My mate at the time from uni got to see the Pixies rehearse before a gig once in a bar he worked in Manchester some years prior to that. So I'm a bit pwned on that one. |

Just finished 'The oral History of a band called pixies' by Josh Frank and Caryn Ganz. Didn't realise how obsessed Cobain was with the band, to the extent that he talked about them all the time. He was actually in awe of most who had Pixie connections, hence the link up with Steve Albini. I fall on the side of the fence that says they are just so influential, that stuff doesn't get old. Nirvana don't hold up as well. If anybody hasn't read the above book, take a look!!quote:

That's not technically what he said, although it may be construed that way. I disagree entirely. I think the Pixies are the most influential band of modern times. Pixies music is complex, whereas Nirvana's songs are pretty standard, they are just simple pop songs produced with a grunge sound.
