I'd say I agree overall. The Pixies did have some amazing songs that it would be difficult for anyone, even Frank himself, to live up to. But the amazing variety Frank has shown in his solo work helps it to top the Pixies' output. I'm sure the general public disagrees with us, but there are probably plenty of other people on this forum who share that opinion.

I honestly don't know why everyone is still after the Pixies. I mean ok, they were good, but everything FB made after the Pixies is a hundred times better than anything the Pixies ever made! especially when I think about Frank's records such as Teenager of the Year, Pistolero, Dog In the Sand, Honeycomb, Fast Man Raider Man... Can't you see the wide range of these various albums/songs...? Since I really got into FB I hardly listen to any Pixies at all! Not that I don't like them anymore, but I would always prefer FB to any stuff from the Pixies... so, I don't really care that much about a new album, as long as there's a some new FB!

at least that's my opinion... please don't hate me for this! :)

yep. the pixies wouldn't be anywhere near as special as they are without joey.

he's an incredibly underrated guitarist.

Yeah. If there's something I miss from the Pixies as compared to solo it's Joey's guitar.

That works for some songs.

Does it matter? The Catholics sounded great playing Pixies without Kim's vocals.

While I think the Pixies would not really be complete without Kim (I think the only non-Frank member who is a thousand % essential is Joey, but that is beside the point), if she had to be replaced I would hope it would be by Eric Drew Feldman.

hah, it's not that i can't hear bass, it's just if you played me a song and asked me who was playing bass i'd be totally clueless.

it's not that i don't think you can't have the pixies without kim (i'm not sure if i worded that right), i'm just saying her bass playing is indistinguishable from other bass players, imo. well, some of the time.

well i did say "i". but i also said "kim". never mind. that didn't make any sense.

i guess i would notice her voice being gone, but as far as bass, i wouldn't notice either way.

Kim has recorded a whopping 3 albums away from the Pixies to Frank's 100 or so in the past 14 years so there's just no question who the more driven and musically enthusiastic of the two really is. Look, if she doesn't want to do anymore Pixies, so be it. Big mistake for Frank to continue without her a la the new Smashing Pumpkins or the Pink Floyd mess, and that's why he won't. If he did revive the Pixies with just Dave and Joe and him, i'd like him to call the new incarnation "The Shitty Pixies" or something. Something tongue and cheek. I knew that reunion would never last and that's why I saw them 5 times in 2 countries back in '04 and '05.
Brank_Flack Posted - 10/06/2007 : 18:22:33
while your right, i think us fans and charles have pretty much stopped listening to the reviews

The album would get fair to poor reviews (regardless of how good it actually is) and the music press would use it as justification to give Kim credit for the Pixies ("they suck without her!"). That said, I personally like the idea.
Arm Arm Arm Posted - 10/06/2007 : 17:00:41
I think each of the Pixies are irreplacable. The four of them share a unique synergy and I'm glad I got a chance to see them reunited. I'm glad they didn't do a reunion minus a member or two. While Kim's bass playing might be simple, it's also beautiful.

Dave's drumming is spectacular! But I can see how someone might not recognize this, his style is very subtle. He is an extremely clever drummer.

Dave is totally unique, especially with how he enters a song. I Bleed for example has some very original drumming.

Maybe they could replace Kim with Kelley?

Dave does have a unique sound. Listen to Bone Machine.

I don't think any of them could be replaced. That doesn't mean Frank couldn't record a decent album with just Joey and Dave (or any other combination of Pixies minus one member), but it wouldn't be a Pixies record.

Conspiracy: Kim, Joey and Dave are desperate to reform the Pixies but with a new lead singer. They don't want that geeky UFO guy in their band anymore, so they're turning down any proposals until he loses interest.

Rumours round my neck of the woods are that James Blunt is being considered.

Carl Posted - 09/28/2007 : 17:36:20
Totally disagree mrgrieves. There may be a lot of drummer's who are technically more proficient than Dave, but he has his own style and character that became an important part of their sound.

Anyone for knob Marmite?

How could you replace Dave? I think he has a unique style which can't be duplicated. Plus... who would sing la la love you?

Pixies can NOT exist without Kim. And same thing for other members.
