Posted - 08/21/2006 : 04:25:47 So...here we are in the Pixies discussion area of FB's site. We all know Frank hears us (he knows we love him) but I don't think Kim does. Maybe he can pass along a message or two for us in September.
It seems that FB would like to make new Pixies music. Kim seems hesitant. If given the opportunity, what would YOU want Kim to know? How would you show her our LOVE?
I'll start... I've read that Frank seems to think a lot of fans want another Doolittle. Not me and here's why. I cannot think of ONE Pixies song I do not like. How many other bands can you say that about? I was ABSOLUTELY THRILLED when I heard the Pixies perform Been All Around the World and that sounds NOTHING like their earlier work. To me it was just NEW PIXIES/MORE PIXIES. THAT'S what I want! The Pixies are simply MAGIC (hehe) and that should not be wasted. I'd listen even if they were singing Nursery Rhymes (and you know it'd be GOOD)!
I think there is nothing more perfect than the musical pairing of Frank and Kim's voices. They go so well together that it almost makes me want to cry! The whole band is so unbelieveably talented.
About Bam Thwok: So Kim wrote this one...The first new Pixies song in over a decade. People should have been going nuts for this! It didn't seem to cause much of a stir at all. I wonder if part of Kim's hesitation comes from this. For the record, I adore this song! Great job Kim! I listen to it just as much as any Debaser, Hey, or Where is My Mind. Well, actually, Kim gets the credit for WIMM too, in my opinion. My boyfriend discovered the Pixies before me and I didn't 'get' it at first. It wasn't until I became aware of KIM'S part in that song that I was hooked...and I've been in love ever since! |

No, no, I think dayanara has the right song. Bam Thwok is a fun little tune, I guess, but if that is going to be the best we'd be getting from a new Pixies album... It just isn't a very good song by Pixies standards. Sorry.
I wouldn't apologise for that. It be truth.
But to think Bam Thwok could be the best the Pixies (Kim) can offer is a waste* of thought (* i was going to say 'a silly thought', but i don't want you to take offence, because I mean none).
Pixies doing a 'Honeycomb'?
Again, another silly thought.
If there's to be a Pixies album, I hope fB writes the majority because like half of you say, Bam Thwok ain't that pretty at all. |

I really can't figure out Kim's reluctance. It's not like the Breeders are doing anything.
The reason the Breeders aren't doing anything is because this Pixies reunion came about and forced Kim to stop working on the new Breeders record she had been writing. The reunion tour has kept any new Breeders material on the back burner for a few years now, and I would imagine that's a big part of why Kim is reluctant to commit to any further Pixies projects until she's had some time to record and release a Breeders CD (which I for one am really looking forward to).
yeah, Frank released 3 albums worth of material during the reunion. She needs to record faster, it's not like those Albini-recording sessions are a 6-moths affair.

Posted - 08/25/2006 : 11:47:41 I'm surprised there's not more support for Bam Thwok. I think the lyrics are wonderful, especially the first line. But think about this: if Pixies came out with a new album and it turned out to be really great, what would it sound like? Not like Frank Black, or Breeders, or even previous Pixies albums. I think it would have a Pixies-esque sound, but be a little more fun and light-hearted than their old albums, kind of like, well, Bam Thwok or Ain't that Pretty at All. It might not be as good as their other albums, but we'd still be glad they made it. But I understand where dayanara and others are coming from. |

that's because it's not a very good song. thumbs up to kim for being realistic about this whole thing.

You must be confusing the Pixies' Bam Thwok with some other Bam Thwok, cuz this one rocks. Don't worry, we all make mistakes. Although, if the Pixies make a new album, that certainly won't be a mistake.

i think kim realizes that the problem is not chemistry but the song writing. any pixies release is not a good pixies release. i sure as hell don't want a pixies version of honeycomb, and the only interesting part of bam thwok is the organ solo.
let the record show: dits > tk.

I love Neko Case (particularly her work with The New Pornographers), but Frank Black seems pretty insistant that it's all or nothing for the Pixies. However, having just seen some of the backstage footage on the acoustic dvd, it seems like there is such good chemistry amoung them that they could make something magical once more; then again, maybe Kim is afraid that they'll lose that chemistry if they have to really immerse themselves in creating new material. |

I thought it did quite well seen as got to Number 1 on I-Tunes. If it had been produced properly and released as a single I'm sure it would have done scored high in the UK charts. |

Posted - 08/21/2006 : 09:39:37 I love Bam Thwok too. Easily my favorite Kim Deal song. If Pixies could make an album of that quality, wow! Ain't That Pretty At All is also awesome. Pixies can do no wrong. Whatever a new album might be like, those who love Pixies will still love them and those who don't, who cares? They will either get more fans, or just keep the fans they have.
By the way, does anyone have a live recording of Bam Thwok? |
