I'm new to this forum & haven't checked out half of it yet but has anyone heard this:

and if so, is it worth getting for a new pixie?

largehearted boy: This Week's Interesting CD Releases.

Interesting releases this week include Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry's
Dylanesque (a collection of Dylan covers), and two new installments in the
Rockabye Baby Lullaby series: Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of The
Pixies
and Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of the Rolling Stones.

According to my parents, the only music that would shut me up as a crying baby was Hendrix. Not sure exactly what to infer from that, other than they must have tried just about everything.

Grand Marnier and a pocketful of speed. We did it all day until we started to bleed.

OK, having a 4 month old baby myself, I can say that this crap is more for the parents than the baby. The kid really doesn't care if it's Coldplay or Metallica. Really. Although he does seem to like The Police (regular version, not baby-ized), but not to go to sleep. My brother who has a 4 year old said he didn't show the slightest interest in "his" music until some time this year. If it ain't Disney or Bob the Builder, or that train guy, it ain't on the map. His kid did like the They Might Be Giants "Here Come the ABC's" DVD though.

However, it does seem to make a difference if the music is simplified or "plonky" as someone put it. Like mainly using bells and vibraphone sounds. Music that is too busy or complex just overstimulates the kiddies and then they won't sleep 'cause they're freaked out and wired. That includes regular Mozart and other busy classical music that they tell you will develop you child's brain.

What's my point? I don't know. Maybe the kids will tolerate it a bit, but if you think it sounds like shit, it's not like it's going to get them into the Pixies or anything.

You're right, the Ramones samples don't sound very good. Seems like they put some work on the first CDs but the last ones sound rushed.

I only listened to the Metallica samples and thought they were good. I should listen to the other ones as well.

And I didn't think they worked very well as lullabies either. I listened to some of the Cure ones, and I was thinking the original song would make a more calming lullaby. I mean wouldn't Plainsong put any kid to sleep?

Damn! Seems the release date for the Pixies one has been pushed back. It says March '07 on one page and September on another. Guess I'll have to get the Ramones album instead.

If you listen closely enough, you might
even hear the people behind the
"Rockabye Baby" series laughing.
They're totally in on the joke, which
they plan on repeating often: Albums of
lullabyzed Radiohead and Coldplay
songs are also out today -- never mind
that some of Coldplay's originals are
already soporific. And many more will
follow -- from Tool and Pink Floyd,
both due next month, to Nirvana, the Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins and Queens
of the Stone Age.

http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/music/ny-etledew4877076sep04,0,158890.story?coll=ny-music-print

So far, nine albums have been
recorded, each culling an artist's
greatest hits in crib-appropriate form.
Tool, Pink Floyd, the Beach Boys, the
Cure, Led Zeppelin and Nirvana are
scheduled for release this year.
Smashing Pumpkins, No Doubt,
the Pixies and Bj"rk are on tap for 2007.

http://www.cinemablend.com/music/Metallica-Will-Rock-Your-Babies-To-Sleep-955.html

The Washington Post reports that “Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of
Metallica” recently hit stores, along with child-pleasing albums for Radiohead
and Coldplay. Coming soon: Tool, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, the Pixies, Smashing
Pumpkins and Queens of the Stone Age will receive the lullaby-treatment.

The Washington Post story is recycled on these sites:

More here, but no mention of the Pixes album:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,215443,00.html

So far they plan to cover the Pixies, Pink Floyd, Tool, the
Beach Boys
, The Cure, Led Zeppelin and Nirvana (the idea
to cover the Nirvana song “Rape Me” was quickly nixed
even when it was suggested the title could be changed to
“Bathe Me”).

Requests to bands for interviews went unanswered. A representative for the Pixies said that the
band couldn't comment as band members and management knew nothing about the project
besides what they read in media reports.
