I have the 12 inch vinyl single of Gigantic and River Euphretes which was produced by Gil Norton. Gigantic is a different version with a slightly different base riff.

Does anyone know if this is available on cd ?

I bet the cops feel good when they get to help some music fanatic with what would normally be an under-the-radar theft. It's been said before but the older I get the more I like the fuzz.

to chinese lover:

My story was very similar... I saw my CDs in the shop (there were some very rare ones so I could tell they were mine) and the guy had put little consignment number stickers on all the CDs he'd got from the guy who robbed me. I thought about telling the shop owner but thought 'he'll just tell me to fuck off and then take them off the shelves'. So I told the cops (who were just up the road), and in we waltzed and he had to cough them up.

Actually, the shop attendant said 'oh, i'm real busy, i'll take them off the shelf tonight and you can pick them up tomorrow'. So i went in the next day and got a stack of about 30 cds, but noticed that some raries of mine that i'd seen the day before weren't in the pile.

So off to the cops I go again, and this time the guy goes 'oh, um, that's right... I got half way through and then forgot! Just grab the ones that are yours' (while looking sheepishly at the cop - he'd tried to make his money back). So I went around looking for all the CDs with the same consignment number, and walked up to the desk with a pile of about 40 more CDs.

To top it all off, i'd already been paid out cash by the insurance company, and the cop just told me not to worry about it.

Still missing about half of my pixies singles though.

I prefer the single version of Gigantic because it doesn't start with the drums setting her tempo/starts right off with nice clear bass. Also, when I heard this version, I realized what she was saying at the 'like the dark but I'd want him' part.

Yeah, I love the re-recorded singles.

According to 'Fool the World', there's an early Norton produced version of 'Here Comes Your Man' in the vaults.

i really love River Euphrates single version - 'salty wine' scream is much better!

just a little off topic @danwalding
i had a load of cds stolen from my car a few years ago... i used to do some work in a radio station so had little red stickers on the back of all my CDs - just to make my cds easily identifiable from every one else's at the end of the night...

so anyway my cds got stolen.. the next day i went around all the second hand record shops with a list of my CDs and told them about the red dots.. - i didn't get to one of the second hand stores because it was closed early - and what a stroke of luck that was! because the next day as i was passing that store i saw a stack of MY cds behind the counter...

i got the cops, who stayed undercover while i asked him to show me the cds behind the counter - he told me to fuck off, then the cops made themselves known and made him show me the cds... and what do you know - a little red sticker on the back of each one, just like i'd told the cops - the police gave them all straight back to me...

anyway the moral of my rant is put something dicreet on your cds so you can easily identify them if the turn up in a second hand store after been stolen... this particular store was well known for accepting stolen goods apparently so i was really lucky that i had not in fact given him a list of my cds - it would have just tipped him off! but the fact that the cds had a little mark - unnoticable to most people, really helped me out

and by the way , sympathies about losing your pixies singles.. if my collection was stolen... well i'd be gutted to be honest..

I have a feeling that, like Dig for Fire, the single version of Planet of Sound was slightly different to the album version (I think they distorted the vocals), but it is one that I never got back so I can't check.

The vocals are UNDISTORTED on the Planet of Sound single version.

Ive got the Dig for Fire cd single.

There is a different mix to the version on Bossanova. The intro is shorter, and the drums seem louder.

And now Im gonna sing the Perry Mason theme....

I remember seeing some of the EPs on CD some years ago, but I never bought them. I don't have any of the main albums/singles on CD.

Yes I always much preferred River Euphrates and Gigantic on this EP. I think Gil Norton eats Steve Albini for breakfast!

River Euphrates is different too, I think it is much better.
