If (or maybe when) a new pixies album is released, Would you rather see Charles Thompson be credited as Black Francis or Frank Black on the CD sleeve?
Personally, i think he could be BF for Pixies and FB for his solo.
Like a man with a secret identity, and that secret identity also has a secret identity.
Anyroad, what do you think?

In all the official bootlegs from 04/05 he is credited at Frank Black..
I love Black Francis though, especially when it was the first time round, and it was rare enough to see pics/interviews of the Pixies.. the mystery in the name 'Black Francis' was just one element of a mysterioius band... i think though it will more than likely Frank Black |

I think(in my humble opinon) that Charles wouldn't change the name back to Black Francis, mostly because of his human and vocal evolution. When I listen to the Pixies records, I know it's the same person behind, but I think I won't be the only one to agree with the fact that it's definitely an other character, another personality. The screaming technique isn't the same on Francis and Black eras. Frank Black, once again in my humble opinion, sings warmer than Black Francis, who was more hysterical and agressive, tortured. Before the Pixies reunion, that I was thinking it would happen, I was thinking to myself "The new pixies won't never be the old pixies. Because it will be Frank Black on vocals, and not Black Francis". See what I mean? Time has operated on the man a way that could not be turned back. Charles Thompson now is Frank Black, and no more Black Francis(one last time, it is my humble opinion only!). |

I got a live album (Live at Fuji-Rock) which was recorded in 2004. There was only 4000 copies of it made. On the inside of the album he was referred to as...
Frank Black!!!
However, it was some kind of festival album and nothing official.
If anyone has one of the official live albums from the last few years it might give an indication as to who's who in the Charles-Frank-Thompson-Francis-Black world.

The name Black Francis used to scare me!
I wasn't taken by the name Frank Black on my very first hearing of his name change. However it's all irrelevant as its the same person, especially when the music is so good. Personally I think it would be cool if he was called black francis if pixies released a new album. On that album they could cover, say, Western Star, and the credits on the sleeve would acclaim Frank Black as the writer. Shameless self promotion, but hey, its clever!
