Posted - 03/15/2006 : 02:41:41 I know they've all got other things in their lives, and other projects, but it's been two years-it doesn't even have to be a full album right away. Maybe they could do it like the beatles and rolling stones-just put out a single and b-side-like a stand alone single that doesn't even go on an album. Something quick, live to two-track.

Posted - 03/21/2006 : 22:09:13 If we don't see a record then I think we'll see singles here and there released on the 'net. But I agree with most of what you've said Jason, except that I don't think they're going to keep playing old stuff forever without turning some people off, but I've been wrong before... they could probably squeeze another couple years out of it by varying the mix with more Trompe, b-sidse, etc, but...

Posted - 03/21/2006 : 21:59:00 My interpretation of Frank's answer and Dave Lovering's little quip:
Obviously the Pixies have considered a new album, talked it over (even if just "informally", half kidding-around), and likely been propositioned by people from labels who'd be happy to release it. So the idea is still on the table (along with lots of other ideas). It's not counted out. If they wanted to make a new record they could.
The idea is likely a little controversial among the group. Kim Deal has said outright in plain English that she has not been into the idea of making a new record.
Maybe some newly-written songs have even been considered as potential Pixies material. Considered by Frank alone, considered by Frank and Joey, considered by Frank and Dave, etc.
And perhaps when Frank gave his leaning-toward-the-negative answer, he's thinking "Well, if we STILL haven't decided by now. At this point. Now that we've been working together again for TWO YEARS... My best guess is that it's not gonna happen." Frank's busy with his own stuff now. Kim's probably busy, too.
I wasn't shocked by the answer. I think I'd be MORE shocked if I learned they were going to make a new album, than if I learned they weren't.
It's SUCH a big risk. Probably not a big risk commercially. But a big risk in other areas.
And in many ways, it's probably not a risk worth taking. They don't NEED to make a new album. They're doing MORE than fine playing and being identified with their old stuff. If they just keep doing that, their audience is happy. A Pixies concert won't sell any more tickets if they have a new album out. They pack the house and get the press just fine playing the old stuff. |

Posted - 03/21/2006 : 09:53:51 Yeah, well I just second what you've all said. It's good they didn't just release a cash in album. Must be hard to write with all that expectation awaiting.
Just thinking back to what David Lovering said in the Q+A that he's "good at keeping secrets". Hmm.... |

Posted - 03/21/2006 : 09:39:22 Yeah, I was a little shocked by that, not sure I believe it actually... but I agree 100% with Mike is all I'm saying.

Posted - 03/21/2006 : 09:28:26 Well it's not what I heard. You never know with Frank, he isn't the most truthful interviewee. Then again, maybe writing/recording the new album didn't turn out as they had hoped and they have scrapped it. And fair enough if that is the case, I don't want substandard Pixies now.

WELL, I MIGHT BE YELLING A LOT ON THE NEXT RECORD, I'M NOT SURE, HARD TO PLAN THAT KIND OF THING IN ADVANCE. NO PIXIES RECORD IS PLANNED. THAT COULD CHANGE IN A HEARTBEAT I SUPPOSE, BUT AT THE MOMENT, IT IS...unlikely...(shhh...you didn't hear it from me....)
I wouldn't get your hopes up! |

Posted - 03/20/2006 : 19:55:59 I so agree with this, I'm impatient, too. I appreicate the nostaligia thing, but feel as though I've bene successfully teased with a 'potential new release' and so yeah, I want I want I want new Pixies stuff.... and Bam Thwok can count, but Ain't that pretty at all was written by warren zevon so can't be considered a new pixies song. man I want a new pixies song. and album. I wonder if it'll happen. I don't think it'll happen if they aren't all feeling it and I don't think that's likely to happen for them all at the same time. i dunno but yeah I want.

Posted - 03/15/2006 : 04:09:26 Well, they already had two of those, with Bam Thwok and Ain't That Pretty At All. But another one or two would be surrealy awesome. Of course, a solid new album would be a dream come true.
