Posted - 12/21/2005 : 20:11:06 If the whole album had a Gouge Away feel: dark, brooding, with a locked in beat it would be a great album IMO.
I suggest this because Galaxie 500 based their entire musical style on a few select Velvet Underground tracks, or so my cloudy mind tells me. |

Posted - 02/14/2006 : 06:09:00 Today I am obsessed with the song 'Angst' from the new b-sides collection. I know this is not a Pixies song but I think it would be a good one! |

Posted - 02/09/2006 : 23:39:20 i hope no song sounds like no other song on it.
thats the great thing about the pixies i think, each song was so different from the last song.
i remember the first time i heard them thinking that every song was gonna sound simmular in some way to the first pixies song i heard. i actually liked the fact that they didnt sound anything like the song i heard. i think really when it comes down to it the only thing simmular in the songs is the singing and even that changes a ton. i hope the songs end up as they were on the other cds, musically expressive to the point where each song is as different as each emotion it conveys |

Posted - 12/24/2005 : 14:48:00 Re a surf record [good idea btw] PIXIES apparently rehearsed Apache for Bossanova but decided to go for the more obscure Cecilia Ann as the opening track. CA is great I think, and maybe a continuation of that line would work plus maybe an Apache revisitation too.
Having said all that, I am sure there will be a totally new angle for any future album/s.

Posted - 12/24/2005 : 07:33:45 Joey must shine, I hope he will do some good lines and riffs as he did for Doolittle and Trompe Le Monde. I'd personally like a surf record as it was planned in 1992, the successor of their last effort. |

Posted - 12/24/2005 : 02:34:26 Apart from Surfer Rosa/Come on Pilgrim - Pixies "sound" was shaped largely by Gil Norton. But the producer's role is not as important as the songs themselves. To answer the question, what song should the album sound like... THEME FROM NARC.

Posted - 12/24/2005 : 01:27:05 I'd like to hear a bigger sound (their sound already being huge) Maybe by layering more guitar parts.
I bet Joey has so much to give to this album, and I think guitars are going to really show off on the new record

Posted - 12/23/2005 : 22:18:55 WOW! I can't believe how clueless I am. I just NOW noticed the great news about the new alb and the wedding and that Violet and Frank are expecting a girl.
Definately agree w/COF that MC is a great song to influence a new Pixies song.
I think the alb should sound like the same band but it will maybe have a distict style to its own. Sort of like the Beatles did with their music.
I hope it's a work that they're making for them and art's sake not for the fans.
However, I hope it's eclectic like the other works and draws from their experiences. True the Pixies' other albums I hope it's rockin and sets the standard for other bands to try to obtain
I wouldn't mind hearing Kim and Dave sing in some of the songs in additon to the legend Frank. Also a little experimentation (for example Joey's guitar parts which he is so good at creating) would be very cool too.

Posted - 12/23/2005 : 20:47:46 We need a new song to put Vamos in its place! As much as i love vamos, we need joey going nuts as much as possible! I dunno, I think it'd be good to have a step away from the 2 track stuff especially with Franks voice. I love franks voice but its become synonymous with Frank Black and the Catholics for me, even Bam Thwok and ATPAA. Just need something to blow the cobwebs away. Sure it'll be good. |

Posted - 12/23/2005 : 03:07:56 i don't want them to just recreate old songs. they're not the type of band who should just repeat themselves. as for the general atmosphere and feel of the songs, it would be cool if they took influences from all their albums. the rough edge of CoP with the darkness and horrow of surfer, the poppiness of doolittle and the insantity of trompe. i have no idea how this is possible but if anyone can do it it's them.

Posted - 12/22/2005 : 09:26:26 I really hope the album doesn't sound like any one song. I mean, it would suck if the whole thing sounded the same, wouldn't it? Honestly, I'm hoping it has more variety than ever before. And with the band members all having tried different things since the break-up, I think this is quite possible. While I'll probably like a new album regardless, I'll be a little annoyed if they think it has to sound like Surfer Rosa or Doolittle, because that's what people expect.

Posted - 12/22/2005 : 05:37:02 All songs in the style of Frank black self titled would suit me, a pick up where they left of in 91 and the continuation of the idea of a double album surf style record. With some last splash era Kim tunes like invisible man and no aloha. That would be great. Not very likely though. |
