Posted - 12/01/2005 : 14:47:55 I don't know if this has been posted or discussed already...I tried to do a search and couldn't find anything, so I apologize if this topic is old. Feel free to lock if it is a repeat.
Last week I found at Tower Records a cd called MAXIMUM PIXIES which is a biography of the Pixies from 86-present, and includes snippets of interviews...very few, and yet there are some interesting quotes. As for the bio, it's everything we already know, but it's an accurate account for those new to the PIXIES. There are some blarring errors in song titles and a few eyebrow-raising remarks by the author (such as a couple bizarre put-downs of the bandmembers physical appearances. Charles is referred to as 'ugly' and 'repulsive', Joey is called the 'balding Philipino', and Dave is called Ben Stiller's ugly younger brother). There is an original background score by someone who must not have been told who he is doing a background score for. But it's a fun addition none-the-less for the collector. And it is nowhere as bizarre and off-putting as that book released earlier this year.
It comes with a little fold-out poster too.
Anyway, just thought I'd pass on the info if it already hasn't been.

Posted - 12/02/2005 : 19:30:35 That's what's so cool about The Pixies!! It reminds of the Beavis And Butthead quip when they're watching Helmet's Unsung vid, and one of them says they look normal, like us, or something! I remember my brother (who is responsible for my love of Pixies, thanks bro!) saying that before he saw a picture of them, he thought Black Francis would look like a real scrawny Iggy Pop kind of guy!

I can't understand people who say things like that either Bill, it seems totally offensive. It must be meant as humourous but comes off really lame. I always suspect that when people heard the pixies they presumed Frank was a big ugly scary guy. Not the young fresh faced kid with the voice of a hurricane. Anyway what an asshole. Boycott these crap money spinners, i would think that writer would concoct a book from whichever band was in the spotlight at the time. Sellout
Back in '88 when I first heard Mr. Francis, I had no idea what to imagine...what I did conjure was hardly what he turned out to look like! He was so normal and plain and average I was completely shocked. Remember this was during the time frontmen looked like Daniel Ash, Axel Rose, and Michael Hutchens. In fact, he was so normal looking yet with that psychotic snarl and screech as volume, I was frightened and creeped.
