Posted - 10/20/2005 : 09:31:59 Pieced together a pretty straight cover of Trompe Le Monde (the song, I'm not quite enough of a fanboy to cover the whole record).. mainly cause I wanted to and I love the song. Plus my recording chops were getting sloppy..
Bottom on the playlist, you know the rest!

When I saw that D chord, I thought you where on about HCYM, but I did'nt see it mentioned, so I assumed we where still on about Trompe.
I've seen it in Guitar World transcribed that way, and it sounds right. Previously, I had seen it like this in Total Guitar:
--1-- --1-- --0-- --0-- --3-- --3--
It's fancier, and is similar to the A Hard Day's Night intro G chord that HYCM kind of pays homage to. But I reckon the other chord sounds more accurate. |

Posted - 10/25/2005 : 03:46:08 I'm dubious of tab books. I had the Nevermind tab book that said 'Come As You Are' was played all on one string..
------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- -0-0-1-2---5-2-5-2-2-1-0--7--0-0--7--
Even as a stoned 15 year old, I still knew that wasn't right..

Posted - 10/23/2005 : 04:56:46 Yeah, I played that chord (2-4-4-3-0-0) and take my middle finger off when during the drum and bass beats (2-4-4-0-0-0). I don't think it's right since it's so hard to make it out, but near enough for a cover.

Posted - 10/22/2005 : 23:29:21 The TLM cover sounded pretty decent. What are the chords just before it goes into each verse (during the 2 sets of 4 'hard' beats)? I've never quite figured that out.

Posted - 10/22/2005 : 16:47:18 Hey Doog,
I am not a big fan of cover versions... TLM is pretty cool tho. I am listening to That New Song and its fucking good.... like the others as well... you're good!
Did you design this webpage? I like the music player and am going to be designing a website for the punk scene in Beijing soon, which will hopefully include something similar to what is being used on your webpage.

Posted - 10/22/2005 : 06:14:53 Heh, I did a cover of Wave about 3 years ago, I don't remember it being very good though.
Seriously though, thanks for the kind words, I thought it was a pretty boring and unoriginal cover (I'm basically playing all the parts as on the record) but like I said, it was a labour of LURVE.

yeah i know what you mean. even if you're pretty good at guitar and know all the parts, it's quite hard to piece it all together to make a good cover. well done doog. seriously... you are the man. i really wanted to watch your cover band those 2 or 3 times you played live but they were always in 21+ or 18+ venues and i was too young... well, i'm 18, nearly 19... so if you do any gigs and they have to be in 18+ venues, I'LL COME!

Posted - 10/21/2005 : 13:10:09 I'm actually from Bognor but know Once Over, the band that takes up most of my time (Illuminati 3) haved played with 'em a good few times. Awesome chaps, very cool band. Oh, we've played the Pav Tav and Hobgoblin in Brighton quite a bit, and the Pressure Point 2-3 times. Y'might have seen us without realising!

That's not the first time that's been said that, which is weird cause I've not listened to them since The Colour And The Shape.

I saw Once Over back at last Halloween supporting Spunge and thought thaey were pretty great. Were you there? I know how poointless this is, but I just found it cool that another member of this awesome forum could have been in the same room as me and we were none the wiser.

Posted - 10/21/2005 : 02:36:52 Haha, I once covered the entire Nirvana 'In Utero' album on my 4 track with just guitar and vocals when I was like 15. Doing the entire TLM record would be interesting, maybe if I spread it out over several years...
When Nimrod's Son were active, I always thought about doing a show of just one record played start to finish, so maybe if we reform, the "Pixies" could finally play all of those TLM songs everyone wants to hear. Hmmm. I must have a think on that.

Posted - 10/20/2005 : 14:40:11 Here's another!
I'm blown away by your playing. If things were different and it was Doog who studied at U-Mass, he would have made an excellent Joey to compliment Charles' Black. You've nailed everything pretty much spot on. I especially like the 'fairground sound' section. Brilliant! A worthy cover to rival the best. No! Wait! Come to think of it, I haven't heard too many Pixies covers that comes anywhere close to the quality of this one. A+
The verse chords aren't played with the B and high E strings left open*, are they?
( * is this "#7/add9"?) |
