just curious what others think. If Frank is not going to be the one singing, I'm out for an all Deal situashone. I mean, I like when she sings every once in a while like on Bam Thwok it was cool. But, not all the time. That would be like sitting Earl Campbell on the bench to let OJ run. Out.

They won't be. I'm sure of that. If it happens, naturally, it will probably turn out to be my favourite record of the year.
It seems whenever these four musicians record an album together i love it. they have something unnatural that sets them planets apart from the rest.

I think there are some people who would love anything they put out, and others who would hate anything they put out. Really, I'm a little bothered by people who insist that a new album would have to sound almost exactly like their earlier stuff. I don't think they should be limited in that way.

What's exciting about the Pixies writing new stuff is,
each member will bring in fresh new ideas (after all the different paths they traveled down, individually).

With the drummer doing magic and all, maybe we'll be hearing enchanting chimes and little wooden flutes.

When was the last time Frank put out a disapointing album... I didn'tlike SMYT that much but most people did. I'd love to see what Frank could do with Joey, Kim and Dav after all these years!

This is a high class bureau de change, not some Punch & Judy show on the seafront at Margate!

Yes please.

Ah, but everything ABOUT the Pixies is unnatural. Especially their talent.

What a way to start a day with Carl's jokes

Carl Posted - 08/13/2005 : 06:46:06
Unnaturally. :)
VoVat Posted - 08/13/2005 : 06:41:56
Well, what other way COULD it happen?

We need a new Pixies album, if it happens naturally. :)
VoVat Posted - 08/12/2005 : 17:18:27
I'm inclined to think a new Pixies album would be good, regardless of what they do. Sure, it might not be good, but since all of what they've done in the past has been so great, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. And that's even if Frank croons, or Kim sings lead on every song, or they actually do the album of waltzes Frank jokes about.

For what it's worth, I'm not really familiar with the Breeders or the Amps.

So.. about this C#m talk.

Are you referring to Bam Thwok(sp?) or just writing songs in general?
fbc Posted - 08/11/2005 : 10:22:43
That would be the best Pixies record ever. I'd buy that for a dollar
Carl Posted - 08/11/2005 : 10:14:51
That would be funny! Frank and Kim doing a lovely harmony and you can just hear 'I pity tha' fool....' in thre background!
Kirk Posted - 08/11/2005 : 10:01:06
On the album,
I would actually prefer both Frank and Kim on vocals,
while Joey continously pushes buttons on this device:

Sounds good to me!
Joey Joe Jo Jr. Chabadoo Posted - 08/11/2005 : 01:47:42
The Pixies will stay the Pixies.

Frank will wright and sing most songs. There will be chorus by Kim as usual but maybe higher in the mix than it was on Trompe le Monde. There will probably be ONE song written BY or FOR her, à la Into the White, and possibly a co-written song à la Silver. An unusual cover song is likely to appear.

Don't worry!

Wait... Am I dreaming or did Mike and Kathryn really AGREE on something? I think that's the first time, isn't it?

I'm not sure if i want to hear a new Pixies album but I do know that I'd be disappointed if kim did the majority of the singing.

At first I was hesitant to hear more Pixies. But after seeing them live three times I am so much more confident that they'd write a bunch of kick ass songs! GOnna be fun to hear, thats for sure!

Yeah, i've written a song that comprises only of C#m.
You want the tab? Can't give you the melody here, but see what you think:

verse: C#m
bridge: C#m
chorus: C#m
verse: C#m
(repeat chorus)
middle 8: C#m
chorus: C#m
Carl Posted - 08/10/2005 : 14:41:32
Funny, I play guitar in my friends band and we were joking about how many C# minors crop up in!!
fbc Posted - 08/10/2005 : 14:21:57
Yeah, and there has to be a C#m in there too. Why go forwards when it's 'smart' to go backwards.
But do you really think they'll slip back into quiet loud distortion filled 2 minute wonders?

wow the expectations already begun. You getting this Frank? This is what we want.

Whatever it could be possibly sound like, you know it's gonna be good. It's the Pixies.

Yeah, 17 years ago. And Frank's the one who's been writing the 'crooners'.
Maybe it's gonna be Kim's input that brings back the sound that's wanted.

If they are smart that's exactly what they'll do and leave the laid-back crooning to solo projects such as Honeycomb.

Exactly.

I wouldn't be happy if Kim Deal sings a lot on an new Pixies album. The same if she wrote lots of songs for it. I think Frank Black is the main composer of the Pixies, not Kim Deal. And I think exactly the same about the singing... Both singing, yes, Frank alone, yes, but Kim Deal singing alone on several tracks, I'm not convinced.

I just want them to play more bossanova, trompe le monde and b-sides songs

...but a new album would be awesome

fuck yes

Oh let it linger
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 08/10/2005 : 11:45:32
I would prefer Frank to do most of the lead vocals, as big a Kim fanatic as I am. I love her backing vocals anyway.

Don't believe the type!

It'd be interesting to say the least, the two songs we've seen so far in my opinion have been restricted creatively, one having to have a poppy feel to it(as it was originally to be on the Shrek soundtrack but not "edgy" enough; how ironic) and the other being a cover.
And with spirits beings high, and there being no immediate pressure on them, they can churn tunes out in their own time,so I'd be hoping for something leaning more towards SR/COP.
And a quick afterthought, the two main creative influences within the band(Frank n Kim), their music has gone in two seperate directions,it'd be mighty tasty to see what happened if it was all brought together(Imagine something along the lines of the Big Bang)
