On my vacation... I played 4 Pixies songs on the jukebox.
It was the first time that I have been able to play them in a random public crowd.
It was very cool! 
Have you ever played Pixies on a juke box?? Where was it? What was it like? What was the reaction of the people?? |

I have been very lucky and catching a lot of Pixies and FB HOneycomb on the radio! There's no greater thrill than hearing those artists (including the Breeders and Martinis) on the radio when you're stuck in traffic.  Instant mood lifter!

I was at a cafe one day, waiting form some bands to play, and the owner came over to me and my friends and asked if there werre any songs he would like for us to hear(he had this bug music system there with thousands of songs in it) so I said Pixies.
He played Pixies basically all night(minus the time that the bands were playing).
Most people were digging it, I hearded a few people talking and heard things like 'yeah, Gouge Away is one of their best' and things like that. |

I love Phish, but I am not part of the cult. I think that's all it is, a cult on par with the followings Grateful Dead had. I hear no Grateful Dead resemblence musically. And I don't like hippies. They're trashy and don't smell good, unless you like petule and henna.

Saw Phish mentioned earlier in the thread - can anyone explain them to me - what is the deal with them/why in god's name are they popular? They make my blood curdle, esp with lead singer's hippie-dippie voice. Were they big just because of all the Grateful Dead fans who needed a new band. Sorry to vent, but a lot of the bars here have phish in the juke boxes and I end up listening to it regardless of my preference... argh |

heya, i've been there years ago when i was on vacation. and i remember playing the jukebox, altough i don't remember the songs. the world is so small...

Suffered like a bastard and ended up blaming it on someone else..It was my identity as a human being versus small town Scotland that was at stake . I lost and eventually had a nervous breakdown. |

I played gouge away at max. volume in a village pub jukebox in small town scotland about 1990. I still live in fear of the reaction it brought. I suffered for Frank.. |

There are about 6 bars that i go to that have pixies on their jukebox. If ever you're in Glasgow check out Nice 'n' Sleazy, i recall the jukebox there as being John Peel's favourite. It's had Surfer Rosa on there for years. Also has Modest Mouse, Evan Dando, Breeders, Dinosaur Jr, MC5, Detroit Cobras, New York Dolls, Yo La Tengo, Smiths....and many more! Pretty much indie club or night you go to you'll pretty much be guaranteed to hear the pixies. Ive worked in bars over the years, have a few Dj friends and remember having show me your tears playing frequently in the one i was working at when it was out. The pixies have a massive following, every time i go to a music store there aren't any frank black cd's left on the shelf. But don't be fooled, the shite always outweighs the good in every town. |

When I'm in the Dundee student union (very rarely) i'll often at least give Debaser and Where is My Mind a play. Though I've been told by people that go there regularly that Where Is My Mind? is often played.
Figures really, students and that song just go together.

I was in a pub in Dublin on Thursday and the guy at the table beside me played Debaser and Where is My Mind on the jukebox which was unexpected but very cool. |

hhmmm... the only time ive ever dared aproach a duke box i pressed the wrong button...and it started playing "little white ball" and i was like AARRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and i had to listen to that annoying song and i was practically ripping my hair out...and the rest of the bar hated me too :P ive never dared sinse |

I remember playing Trompe songs on a jukebox in Kirkcaldy at a sleazy rock hangout (that was a semi respectable restaurant by day), really loud too.
I also played The Cure's "Other Voices" in a 'working mens club' once. I don't recommend it.

what usually drives it is bad music... man i was at a bar in cincy last weekend and I was like... please have the pixies. It was one of those electronic juke boxes, but this one wouldn't let you download.
It was country, some classic rock and the most current rock band they played was the Killers.
Such a shame... those folk don't know what they're missing.
It's funny b/c since I have been in Minneapolis, I haven't put money in one b/c I am usually cool with the music. |

I have a few times, I usually put Nimrod's Son on, heheh. The Hobgoblin by work has a good selection.
I've been once or twice to the Boogaloo (Shane MacGowan's local) up the road, that has the official best jukebox in London - they have a 'nothing under ten years old' policy, I think I put some Beach Boys and 'Shadowplay' by Joy Division on last time I was in there.

lol trans marine... I almost freaked out when I saw it for the first time. I mean i have gone to bars forever... and this was the first time I saw it.

The bar that I frequent in Manchester, which is possibly the greatest bar in the world, often has Pixies coming from the jukebox. I usually play 4 or 5 when I go in but there are usually another 2 or 3 played by other people.
I was in it's sister bar down the road on Sunday and found someone had left £2 in the jukebox, so I got to put 18 Pixies songs on. Cool huh?
I guess floop WAS right!

Well I played it at one of my old favorite college bars. Granted, it's in Indiana, so the music is pretty mainstream.
When I was there the top band played on the Jukebox were probably the Greatful Dead and Tribe Called Quest.
Now it seemed like Phish and Luda were the most popular. Someone played a Bush song... so I am like... I wonder if they have any Pixies on there.
It was one of those deals where you can look up songs online and then they download it so you can play it.
They didn't have all the Pixies songs but they did have a lot... there was someone behind me so I kinda rushed so maybe I didn't pick out the most up tempo crowd pleasing ones.
I played Cactus... for some reason the volume was turned down low and it sounded muffled. Then I played U Mass. That was a hit... I don't think people knew what it was, but I think they were digging it.
Then I played Broken Face I think and then I didn't get to hear the last one because I payed double to hear the first 3 up front.
The last song I am pretty sure I played was gouge away. So, It would have been cool to see the reaction.
So it was cool!! I will look for more Pixies tunes on Jukeboxes!! |

I will never forget we were eating a early dinner at a local resturant/bar and decided to take a look at the jukebox. To our surprise there had to have been at least 10 Pixies songs listed. We paid for all 10, but then the band that was playing that night came in (at least three hours early) and started their sound check. Which would have been fine except they brought in their own stereo and started blasting it over the jukebox playing The Pixies as they ever so slowly set up their instruments and chatted with one another. So we had The Pixies playing under some Jazz/Funk music on the band's own stereo and inbetween they were playing their instruments and talking into the mic. Talk about sound polution!
They finished at about the last song we paid for in the jukebox.

I played Bird Dreams of the Olympus Mons on a jukebox once that had Trompe, I think I choose it cause its a sort of obscure song to choose. Nobody really reacted to it, but I've seen people go mad when Debaser or Here Comes Your Man are played in bars, mostly me.

I remember the first time I spotted that 'Monkey Gone to Heaven' had made it onto my local's jukebox, albeit buried in disc two of a compilation. Ah... good times...
