Fri, Feb 25 at Lil Nikki's in Soulard.
It's The Pixels (Pixies tribute, and yes, we pre-date the Pixies reunion) with Lester Shy and the Shyphonics (Dead Milkmen tribute)! You want some of this.

More info, including song lists:

I am one happy prick.

I wouldn't mind an evening of Dead Milkmen cover tunes.

Ok - I'll be civilized. There's really only one reason I've kept this project going over the years, and that is that people - die hard Pixies fans and the uninitiated alike - truly enjoy going to the shows. People get out of their seats and shout along from start to finish. I've seen bands with way more talent than I have play way better sets and get only a fraction of the crowd response we get. And that's not an ego thing, in fact the opposite is true: if one of our shows is anything less than fanfreakingtastic then that means we did it wrong. If people go nuts for it then that just means we didn't screw it up too bad and we really can't take any more credit than that. I have no idea if other tribute acts see themselves the same way - this is the only one I've been involved with (and probably the last).

The sincerest flattery we receive is when a Pixies fanatic rocks out at a show and then comes back to the next one, and the next best is when a newbie comes to a show and then goes out and buys their first Pixies album. Sometimes people just want to rock and so we try to make it a little bit easier for them - that's all we're about and nothing more.

WRT to my original reply to you, yeah maybe I was too harsh. My problem is that some guy, who is hundreds of miles away from the venue, goes out of his way to basically say that since we're a tribute act it must suck and why would anyone want to see that? You didn't ask any questions or say anything about us in particular except register your own personal distaste for tribute acts. That's not criticism - that's just a snap judgement, and it serves no purpose but to rain on my parade (so I peed on yours). Criticism is when you've actually seen/experienced something and then you make comments based on that. I openly welcome that type of feedback - unpadded criticism is a valuable thing that is hard to come by. The only reason that I posted here is that I know there are plenty of Pixies-starved fans in the area and I wanted to give them the choice of coming out to the show, especially since we don't do this very often (maybe ten shows in 6+ years).

Am I really too cool for school? You should get used to a little criticism....besides, I wasnt critical....I just dont get the tribute band thing. The idea watching other people do an entire show of covers makes me cringe....do people applaud? Doesnt it make you feel weird? What are they applauding? 'Hey man, you can really play the hell outta other people's songs!'.....A lot of people do a lot of strange things that most people are hesitant to question and just accept it as normal.....but it is kinda creepy. It reminds me of the people who get up on stage and act out Rocky Horror.....makes you feel awkward.

You could have a 'hey what the hell, we're just having fun man....brings people together' attitude about it though....a lot of people who do lame things justify themselves that way too.....it seems to work for them.

Fair 'nuff. Sorry if I snapped in your direction, but I get irritated when people like the moosef*cker above insist on chiming in with a "2 cool 4 school" attitude just because it's not their bag (no, you freak, "Caribou" is not a serenade for your livestock ;-P ). No value added, just bitching and belittling. You bring up a fair point though...
We do mix it up a bit by playing some B-side versions of songs, etc - we always try to have something new, but I've discovered over time that there are various reasons why the Pixies don't play alot of songs from those two albums (plus some of the tunes are just really hard to pull together and more work than they're worth, dare I say it). I read through the logs of FB's chat visit here in October and it confirmed what I already thought. Even with a handful of hardcore fanatics present, it really doesn't take long to lose the crowd if you veer too far from the path - the shifts in crowd energy are dramatic, and it's a lot easier to bring it down than lift it back up. Disappointing but true. We generally settle on 1 or 2 "nuggets" in a 45-60min set, plus lots of tunes from SR and COP.
Besides, the Pixies played two shows here in Missouri during the reunion tour, but they still managed to skip over St. Louis, so most of the people who come to our shows want to hear the staples. Our goal is to put on a good show for the people who show up, and I think we do that well. Thanks for the comments.

You don't have to feel bad
it's your band man
but you would be a lot more interesting if you played
songs the actual pixies don't play
just my relaxing 2 cents

Actually, we've done Alison in the past, and we've recently added Alec Eiffel. The Pixies haven't played any more than us from those two albums in the last two shows I've seen, so I don't exactly feel bad.

Tough crowd. Y'all should get out more or something. It's just for fun people. If you're in the area then come to the show, else relax a little guy.
