Posted - 12/15/2004 : 16:32:08 Great song,i brought my old Pixie loving/FB not knowing friend to FB in Camden, where it was a solo show. He was not that keen until Frank belted out this song on acoustic and barked the screamy parts (crack, crack, crackity jones). Awesome gig, awesome song. Captures the schizo feel of his roomate. |

Posted - 12/15/2004 : 15:45:30 i dont like tonys theme that much but i love crackity jones, the live version off of the Death to the Pixies second disk is amazing, it the way Joey enters the song on that whale of a note and it all crashes in and goes crazy. its pure energy.
or sumthing like that! |

Posted - 12/10/2004 : 11:25:43 I don't like this song. It makes my head hurt. Along the lines of "Tony's Theme" for me.

We aren't here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect. Not us. Not us! We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts and love the wrong people and die. The storybooks are bullshit."

Posted - 12/09/2004 : 12:04:32 I wasn't worried at all. I can't think on a better way to die.
Mmmmm... I lied, I can imagine one better way.

Ah, the same thing happened to me, rita. When I heard 'Jose Jones...', I thought "I'm in big trouble...". One of my favourites from Doolittle.
When Frank started singing 'Let's ride a tire' I thought: "I'm gonna be killed"
Back to topic, like Tre said, I always think I don't like this song ...until I hear it again.

One of the good thing about it was that I could die in peace... What a death, during a Pixies concert!

It was me who had to say that, Denis.
You were too busy kissing and groping under the mistletoe, so I thought I'd brag about my Spanish meanwhile.

Posted - 12/08/2004 : 15:29:55 I love this song, it makes me jump a lot, but it also makes me remember how I was almost smashed/killed in the Pixies show in Portugal, everybody went crazy when they played! It´s one of the most powerful songs that I know, and I love to listen Frank singing in spanish...

Posted - 12/08/2004 : 09:28:08 "Jose Jones is a roommate I had in Puerto Rico. I lived in this men's dorm that was half homosexual and I had this really crazy drug addict psycho weirdo guy to share with and this is all about him. I would be speaking to him in Spanish so everything would be a little vague to me and he kept talking on and on about Paco Picopiedra and La Muneca. I couldn't work out what he was talking about and it was Fred Flinstone!" (Black Francis in the NME, April 1989) |

Posted - 12/08/2004 : 08:30:21 it's dramatic. burning chord opening. desperate, manic vocal.
Sounds like some old movie where a trusted messenger busts into the room, bloody, out of breath, dehydrated. collapses in front of everyone. They lift up his head and pour water to his lips. gulp, gasp. the words.... jose jones told me alone his story.
then the song explodes like an oppresivly hot and crumbling mexican village-town.
you can almost smell the sweat stained wife beater.

i think i got wiplash from this song played live. |

Posted - 12/08/2004 : 07:14:21 I like the picture it paints. It's easy to visualize this schizophrenic man, unstable, volatile, alternately ingratiating and hostile, perhaps armed, smelling of old sweat, living in a boarding house with cracking plaster, driving a beat up car and talking to the air, receiving and imparting secrets. Or something.
Wasn't this one taken from/inspired by Frank's true-life adventures in Puerto Rico? |
