Posted - 11/08/2004 : 19:18:23 one of my favorite Pixies songs. Ethereal and beautiful.
the key change is simple and pure fucking genius, imo |

Moving from the clown to the jester will mean moving from similar to same, from alike to identical, from comparable to analogous. Though applied differently, the colours used on one can be used on another, and a couple of changes of costume will rapidly transform the jester into a clown and the clown into a jester. Strictly speaking, they almost duplicate each other as regards clothes and function, the only difference between them, from a social point of view, is that clowns do not usually visit the palaces of kings. |

She's my fave, = Shy fem save, Undressing in the sun, = Right! Nude sunniness, Return to sea - bye, = Uneasy or better, Forgetting everyone, = Nifty revenger to ego, Eleven high, = Helve hinge, Ride a wave. = Dear! A view.
helve = the handle of a weapon or tool. Synonyms: haft.
Truer words have never been written. Nude Frank is my hero... and always right. |

Posted - 11/07/2004 : 12:26:28 Yeah, I think it was a case of Frank mixing up anagrams and acrostics. He has indeed said it was an anagram, but, well, he's wrong.

Posted - 11/07/2004 : 09:07:43 yes it's an acrostic, the annogram story (I thought it was called an anagram btw) isn't new though, charlesthomspon didn't make that one up, it was said to be the reason behind the title of 'ana'.
an anagram however is mixing up the letters of a word to make another stop is an anagram of post and vice versa

Posted - 11/07/2004 : 07:58:42 no, it's an acrostic, if you look above. |

Posted - 11/07/2004 : 06:14:36 sweet sweet song!
a personal fave...i think the drums and guitar fit together like strats and marshals!
i also like the annogram! S.U.R.F.E.R! i didnt see that at first til someone said to me : "whatever your theories on the song, i doubt its called ana because of some girl that dumped him in highschool! its an annogram you idiot"
that kinda made me feel embarrased! |

Posted - 11/05/2004 : 08:48:37 ana is a pretty song, but havalina is the prettiest on the album. my only complaint about bossanova is that frank sounds like hes whispering on most of the songs, and his voice seem very distant as opposed to the rest of the pixies albums. |

Posted - 11/05/2004 : 04:58:44 A geat song, needless to say. The most surfy Pixies song (except for Cecilia Ann). The 'change in tone' that billgoodman mentioned is what I really love about this song. How it changes moods, so to say. It goes from this quiet, pleasant and dreamy feeling to, howshouldIputthisdangmyenligsh, a more 'unpleasant feeling', like there's some danger around.... bleh, you know what I mean |

From the Frank Black FAQ...
Q: In which songs has Frank employed acrostics?
A: “Ana,” “Speedy Marie,” “Valley of Our Hope,” and “Robert Onion.” There has been a forum discussion thread on this topic; click here to view it.
The linked thread breaks it down, Dayanara. The brilliant break-down by Thomas is on the second page. Good stuff.
As for Ana...a great song. Quite beautiful.

Posted - 11/02/2004 : 07:31:00 How many songs did Frank write that have an acrostic in the lyrics? "Ana", "Speedy Marie", "Robert Onion", "Valley of Our Hope"... is that all?
Either way, I love them all.

Posted - 11/02/2004 : 07:09:50 I love that song it seems to me that this song is way more complex and way more artistic than earlier pixies songs Could be great as a Beach Boys song circa Smile you know weird lyrics, word game, music that shifts in tone
great
