For anyone who is interested i posted a long while back enquiring about using Pixies songs for my dissertation film. Well its finished, i was annoyingly close to a first class degree, which is the way someone with a second class degree says he has a second class degree.

The film turned out much funnier than we had hoped, its visual style leaves a lot to be desired but we got the result we wanted - a few belly laughs. We paid a pauperly sum to use 90 seconds of Debaser, and our own "interpretations" of Caribou, Monkey Gone To Heaven and Here Comes Your man, only for our lecturer to demand we take them out because they didn't fit in!!!!!!

Luckily we managed to pursuade her to let us use Debaser and Here Comes Your man. I hope to one day be able to show you all what is a partly Pixies influenced film about one man's quest to make the greatets art film in the world, along the way he runs into Death, the Lady in the Radiator and the bint missing an eye in Un Chien Andalou.

And I'd like to think the royalty fees we gave the publishers got the Pixies a cup of coffee, or at the very least half a cup of coffee.

Well i explained to the Pixies manager that our budget was £50 so the songs cost us £50, fair price really considering i thought we'd get turned down. The £50 covered us for use of the original Debaser recording and our own instrumentals of 5 Pixies songs.

out of curiocity, how much does it cost to use a Pixies song for a festival-only release?

Hmmmm, actually i have a friend who can do that. I'll consider it, i'm not too sure how well it will go over, Comedy being a fine art and all. I'll see if i can convert it over the weekend. I may also have to ask the publishers for permission to have the songs viewed with my film over the net as the current agreement only applies to British Festivals.

Well, how long is the film? Can you get it converted into a media file? Someone might be able to host it for a little while.
