When you start write the first ten Pixies songs that come to your mind. Don't look anything up...just the first ten that come to your mind.

The Pixies have a solid well-rounded base of many songs that have a wide appeal to fans regardless of age or geographic location. This supports the fact that Pixies have a well-liked and well-rounded catalogue versus a handful of popular hit tunes.
Pixies Mind Game #1 revealed “Debaser” is the first or second song most likely to come to about 16% Pixies fans minds. However, given the margin of error and the sample bias, it is possible that other popular songs would take the top spot in another survey. Other Pixies songs, such as Where is My Mind? hold top spots of fans’ minds, but in this survey Debaer garnered the first spot for top of mind awareness
Pixies fans cite a variety of songs as their favorites as part of unaided recall as part of Pixies Mind Game #2. There was no clear-cut winner in this category. The diverse response in this category reflects a diverse group of songs and is highly different from the responses received from Pixies Mind Game #2. This data gets at the songs that are near and dear to “uber” fans’ hearts vs. the songs they are most likely to come to the top of their minds when asked to name their favorite Pixies songs.
METHODOLOGY
Two “threads” were initiated in October of 2004 on the Frank Black Forum to gain insight into popularity of Pixies fans among forum members to provide insight into song popularity among “fans” who frequent FrankBlack.net
Forum members were given a few weeks to respond
This test is directional only, e.g. should only be used as a “finger to the wind estimate.” Due to the informal nature of this quiz, the inherent bias of this sample, and small sample size-- statistical significance and a margin of error have not been calculated. Despite the shortcomings of the methodology, this survey does uncover a limited amount of learnings among Pixies fans song preferences. (continued)
A key influencer of top of mind awareness is considered to be the song of the day thread posted in the same location as the survey. Therefore, the song Bird Dreams of Olympus Mons responses might be higher than what it would have been under other circumstances.
Sample sizes ranged from 62 respondents for the first Mind Game Thread and 20 for the second mind game thread. This compares to 5,000 plus Frank Black Forum membership and the even greater Pixie fan base of tens of thousands of fans. The sample size for Mind Game #1 is decent, but the sample size for Mind Game #2 is rather small. (continued)
Unaided recall of Pixies fans was tested in the thread titled “Pixies Mind Game #1”. Unaided recall is what comes to mind first, without any assistance or tools to trigger memory. Fans were asked to list the first 10 Pixies songs that came to their mind without looking at any other responses or information. Responses at the top of the list are given a higher weight because they came to mind first. The first and second responses are totaled to provide a “top two box” score. This score is another way of slicing the data to determine what Pixies fans are the first to come a fan’s mind.
Aided recall of Pixies fans was tested in the thread titled “Pixies Mind Game #2”. Aided recall is what comes to mind with help to refresh the memory. For example, fans were urged to consult CD’s for the top ten tracks to include in this list. Responses at the top of the list are given a higher weight because they came to mind first. The first and second responses are totaled to provide a “top two box” score. This data is a better indicator of what the fans perceive to be their true favorite songs. This thread received 1/3 less responses due in part to what may have been perceived by a nearly identical thread. As a result, the data in this thread should be weighted less than the unaided recall thread of Pixies Mind Game #1.

Debaser is the top song that comes to fans minds in this survey. However, due to the an estimated margin of error of +/- 5%, these song preferences could actually be closer than they appear.
Beginning with Where is My Mind?, there is no definitive distinction in fans minds when it comes to top of mind awareness.
Wave, Monkey, Hey, Velouria, Motorway to Roswell, Caribou, and Bone Machine are just a few of the other songs that come easily to the top of fan’s minds.
AIDED RECALL
It is difficult to declare a favorite song of uber fans, due to the low response rate and the fact that each number you see here is separated by a couple of votes. This is not an absolute determination into favorite songs it only provides antidotal insight.
Fans have diverse favorites. However in this sample Havalina and I Bleed appear to be the favorites by a close margin. However, these songs appear to be grouped in clusters, showing in this instance that these groups have more or less equal weight in fans minds.
Tied at 5% are: Oh My Golly!, Planet of Sound, Allison, Ana, Tame, Alec Eiffel, D=R*T, Subbacultcha, Dead, Head On, Silver, Vamos, Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons, Boom Chicka Boom, Break My Body, Dancing Manta Ray, Dig for Fire, Gigantic, Nimrod’s Son, Velouria, Bailey’s Walk, Broken Face, Hang Onto Your Ego, Into the White, Weird at My School
