Just a couple of thoughts I had, again knowing sweet fa about website design and upkeep feel free to point out my general horrible wrongness.

  • FAQ's: It was noted in the boring forum thread that a lot of the same sorts of thread are being asked over and over again, there's lots of people asking about FTP and other forum things, how feasible would a subsection like the arts salon be titled something like "FB.Net FAQ" containing threads that are FAQ's related to the forum, like how to join the Slsk client, what the tribute album is all about etc...

  • Stickys: There seems to be a lot of them in the main chat areas, if a subsection were made for FAQ's and forum issues I think a lot of them could be moved over, expecially the ones that have slowed down, things like the tribute discussion/reviews.. multiple accounts.. general chat rules.. illegal merch Fb pictures freeing up space at the top of the chats, I know personally I was a member for three months before I paid any attention to them. I'm not saying they don't have their place but maybe it's somewhere else? and maybe some can be unstickyed?

  • Song DB threads: Elevator hit the nail on the head I think, as well as me yapping in them they're either being largely ignored or in one case abused a little, I think it is too regimented but I can't think of a better idea for the actual threads, UNLESS again they have their own place, for people to come in and post on as and when they get new bits of information. So it's a constant update. I don't know on this one, anyone got any better ideas?

  • Archiving: how does this work? I don't know, but in general chat we're up to 80 pages now!

  • T-shirts/Badges: this has died a death, is it off the cards? totally off the cards I mean? Is there anyway of re-trying for this, simple things like that might boost enthusiasm as well as make a bit of cash for the sites maintanence

  • Ok, let the onslaught begin....

Yeah, when I get back, when I get back... sorry. I know it's dated. :(

(Not a question but) The bio page could really do with some updating. It seems to be very Catholic orientated (which isn't a bad thing).
I tried searching for this man...

    ...but he's not there.

I only say, well, because this is no ordinary drummer. This is Nick Vincent.

Sorry, i've only just checked this thread. I'll see what he says.

I think you switched the wrong one, it still comes up purple instead of blue

Email me links of old stickies, i'll take 'em out. (Or whatever you want done with 'em.)

Icon should be fixed, thanks Tre.

Tre, I've done what I can with the remaining stickies, but I can't move Dave's. Also, FBC, send a message to Proverbial about whether he's still doing tabs and cc me on it, if you still have my address. Thanks.

how do we get our tabs into the song database?

i know Proverbial is the main man for this thing, but i haven't seen him around for a while,
and we're getting requests for songs that were tabbed months ago.

  • Can this be done again? I think everyone knows the layout has been changed, and the forum troubles have passed, the volunteers have done their thing and they're just cluttering up the top of general chat.

Also, again, the sticky locked icon needs changing from purple to blue. The icon has been posted. I don't know if you guys saw this when I posted it in the other thread.

The FAQ is mentioned and listed in the Forum description when you first arrive here..

I think it would be nice to have a faq page as part of the main page, rather than just in the forum; it seems more logical and I'm sure a lot of people don't even look for one in the forum (or they just click the one about the forum technical aspects in the top right corner and assume that's the only one).

    Thanks Dean,

could the song db threads section not get added maybe to the salon? I understand the need to keep it minimal (one of the joys of this site) i understand that it's probably a big hassle i was just trying hard to have a think about things

    1) The t-shirt thing is dead for the time being. There was a point where there was enough enthusiasm and interest that it was worth trying, but I think we're sort of in a lull right now (which I'm grateful for the assistance/ideas in attempting to rectify). Maybe when we hit a high point it'll get brought up again.

    2) I'll look through the stickys and see what can go tomorrow (busy today).

    3) A separate forum for the song db threads is something I'll think on some more, but in general I try to minimize the amount of forums we have here so it's not big and messy. Adding that FB.Net Salon section was a big deal.

    4) Archiving will get done once our site is completely moved to the newer/faster server. It would knock the site out for a day or maybe more to do so now.

    5) As always, if you think something should be in the FAQ, just post on the FAQ thread or email Mereubu, or what have you. She is by a couple times a week to check for new requests, but if you don't tell her, she won't know.

ElevatorLady and kittie bring up very valid points.
This forum's grown by leaps and bounds and needs
some retooling; the many ideas in this thread are a necessary and good start.

I believe that our all-wise admins are working on such wholesale changes.

    Just my two cents worth.

oh and the reason I say a whole sub section is I think the link gets overlooked a lot as do the stickys (i may be wrong this is all opinion) and it would be easier to manouvre threads than scrolling through an FAQ.

I also wanted to quote this because I think it's great (i hope she doesn't mind)

Like what are the Where Is My Mind lyrics and ESPECIALLY the "I'm new to Frank Black which album should I buy first?" kinda things. The "what is you favourite this and that" threads are ok though, for the sake of new members. Others can ignore them anyway. A short description of each album would be nice as well. No more that a couple of words, just to make someone who hasn't heard them yet an idea on how they sound like.

The search function should be thrown out, instead there should be a link to Google advanced search with short instructions on how to use it to search the forum topics. It works great but many people don't know about it. It should be written in big bold letter on top of every page. The link to the FAQ should be more visible as well.

About why the song database threads aren't working: I think the problem is they are kinda forced upon us. I absolutely LOVED the Thalassocracy thread, very interesting and informative and there were other nice ones as well, but as soon as you go "here's a song analyze it!"… Takes the fun out of it.
